Cancer Information Analyst (NCRAS Partnership)
Fixed Term (Until 31 March 2019 - Covering Secondment)
£30,000 - £35,000

Location: Public Health England, Wellington House (near Waterloo).

We now have an exciting new vacancy for a Cancer Information Analyst post. The post will support the development and delivery of a continued programme of work – a partnership between Macmillan Cancer Support and the National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service (NCRAS) – to increase our understanding of the growing population of people living with cancer in the UK, their needs, experiences and outcomes now and in the future.

If you can produce the high quality data analysis and modelling we need to inform planning, service development, decision making and external communications to make cost effective arguments, then you could help improve the lives of everyone living with cancer.

You’ll do that by supporting managers in identifying and modelling economic arguments, developing appropriate research briefs to meet those needs, analysing health and social care activity and costs data, writing reports and briefing internal and external audiences in ways that make complex data easy to understand.

You’ll also support the delivery of data needs in relation to health and social care, including analysis and interpretive reporting of emerging health and social care data to derive the insight and intelligence that informs strategy and policy development, campaigns, fundraising, and service development.

It’s essential that you have extensive experience of managing and delivering high quality robust analytical reports and products. So, your track record must demonstrate a sound understanding of a range of both qualitative and quantitative methods of research and analysis, supported by a sound knowledge of Excel, Oracle SQL and statistical packages (ideally R or STATA).

Your communication skills are excellent – particularly around simplifying the complex for non-specialist audiences and the ability to identify key messages appropriate to every audience and situation – and ideally you also have experience in a role where the emphasis was on analysing and interpreting social or health-related data activity and costing data.

The National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service (NCRAS), which is within Public Health England (PHE), provides intelligence to drive improvement in standards of cancer care and clinical outcomes. This is facilitated through a series of work programmes, utilising the healthcare data and information collected about cancer patients by multiple specialist organisations and collated within PHE. The NCRAS builds on the work of partner organisations and teams to develop world class cancer intelligence for PHE, partners – nationally and internationally - and the local public health system.

The NCRAS leads on sharing high quality intelligence, knowledge, evidence and expertise to support the needs of stakeholders. It produces analyses, toolkits and reports which span both the Public Health and NHS agenda.  New analyses include the number of people living with cancer, how outcomes vary between different patient groups and by stage at diagnosis, and an insight into cancer equality metrics.
