Job description

Make-A-Wish UK is looking for an inspiring Content Officer to work on the development, creation and delivery of magical content for Make-A-Wish which aligns with the organisation's overarching strategy and goals and the core communications pillars across the year.

Right now, over 60,000* children in the UK are eligible for a wish because they have a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, a diagnosis that changes their lives and the lives of their families forever.

The power of a wish revives a childhood stolen by critical illness. It brings light and joy to children and their loved ones, with a profound and lasting impact on all their lives.

However, granting wishes takes an army of volunteers, community support, skills and donations to help children feel like children again. So, we’re looking for people like you to help.

Together, we have the power to light up the darkness.

Make-A-Wish is an inspiring place to work as we’re immersed in the magical world of children’s imaginations! You will be joining us at an exciting time as we launch our ambitious new strategy which will, ultimately, enable us to reach more children and young people with a wish.

About the role

In this role you'll be helping us to reach every child who is waiting for a wish in the UK by developing, creating and delivering content that supports our mission and the strategic plan that underpins it.

Some of your responsibilities will be:

  • Act as the gatekeeper of all content production needs for the whole organisation, managing the flow of production and timelines in consideration of team capacity and workload and communicating this out to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead the relationship with all videographers, photographers and content related freelancers to capture compelling powerful content that drives optimum results, ensuring they are fully briefed and competent on the sensitivities around capturing wish family content.
  • Anticipate and actively seek out the content needs of the organization, ensuring all content we capture has intent and purpose behind it and considers how we can maximise the value from the opportunity so it goes beyond one off asset creation to drive true ROI.
  • Support the rest of our Marketing and Communications Team

To be successful in this role, you'll need to have experience of working in the non-profit sector and specifically of developing and delivering fundraising stories.

We're a flexible organisation that promotes agile working and had the technology in place for employees to work from home before the pandemic. We also work out of accessible, bright, airy offices directly opposite Reading train and bus stations.

*The report “Estimating Current and Future Prevalence of Children and Young People who would be eligible for the Make-A-Wish Foundation” was published in November 2020 with research by Deborah Gibson-Smith, Stuart Jarvis & Lorna Fraser from the Department of Health Sciences, University of York & by Paul Norman from the School of Geography, University of Leeds.

Make-A-Wish UK is a rewarding place to work, every day you will be helping to make a difference granting life-changing wishes to seriously ill children.

The organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A DBS check will be requested where required. Employment is subject to positive references and proof of the right to work in the UK.

Make-A-Wish is also committed to attracting and recruiting diverse people as it’s vital that we strive towards ensuring that our trustees, employees, ambassadors and volunteers reflect the communities we seek to serve.

Location:
Can be based anywhere but will need to be in Reading regularly, when external circumstances allow.

Hours:
Permanent full-time contract.
