About Malaria No More UK
Malaria has been described as the oldest killer disease in history; even now, despite recent progress, it claims the life of a child every two minutes. Malaria No More UK is part of a global movement that is determined to make this the generation that beats this killer. To realise this vision, we need to mobilise governments, influencers, businesses and the public, inspiring them to commit funds, energy and resources to ending deaths from malaria and wiping out the disease for good. In 2018 Malaria No More UK conceived and delivered The Malaria Summit 2018, at which $4.1 billion was pledged, and 53 Commonwealth leaders committed to halving malaria in their countries by 2023.
Malaria No More UK is seeking an exceptionally motivated and organised Strategy and Planning Manager to provide crucial support to the COO. This is an exciting, demanding and challenging role and will suit individuals who would like to apply their key skills in a charity that makes a big impact in a meaningful way.
The Strategy and Planning Managerhas primary responsibility for managing discrete, major, cross-organisational project areas; including both internally and externally focused projects. A core focus for this role over the next 12 months will be project managing the next Malaria Summit in Kigali, Rwanda in June 2020. This includes designing and managing governance structures, creating and delivering the project plan and budget, mitigating/escalating risks as required.
The second area of work that the role covers is leading and managing the organisation’s strategy. This includes 1) embedding the strategy across the organisation, 2) delivering operational planning processes and generating team buy in (supporting goal development and KPIs), and 3) designing processes and a framework to measure the impact of our work.
The third area of work that the role supports is internal development. This primarily focuses on supporting the Leadership Team, including some Chief of Staff responsibilities. The Strategy and Planning Manager works closely with the COO and supports the wider Leadership Team including actively supporting meetings and planning activities and attending LT meetings.
The Strategy and Planning Manager is a key function in enabling other team members to deliver on their objectives, providing targeted support where required.
oManage discrete, major, cross-team strategic initiatives to deliver on organisational objectives, such as Kigali 2020
oTake responsibility for the planning and overall delivery of project
oLead and grow project team, delivering to time and budget
- Develop and proactively manage effective governance structures, internally and externally
oEffectively report progress and manage risks upwardly to the LT and Board
Strategy, Planning & Impact
oOwn process to implement and embed MNM UK’s strategy in all areas of the organisation
oSupport the development and updating of the strategy as and when required
oManage operational planning processes to develop the organisation’s annual operational plans and support the COO on organisational budgeting against these plans
oTrack progress against the operational plans, and prepare reports for the team, LT and Board
oWork with Goal Leads and project managers to define, engage and troubleshoot to support them in delivery of their operational plans
oAcross both strategy and operational planning, engage the wider team to ensure cross-organisational buy in and alignment
- Develop and deliver organisational Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Framework, including managing external consultancy support
- Support MEL elements of key grants
- Support the sustainable growth of MNM UK by ensuring current processes are fit for purpose and successfully rolled out
- Active Chief of Staff duties working closely with the broader Leadership Team
- To undertake any other reasonable additional duties as required by MNMUK
Qualifications, skills and experience
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with an ability to influence, negotiate and manage conflicting priorities across multiple stakeholders
- Experience managing organisational planning and budgeting processes
- Proven experience of solving complex issues through analysis, strategy setting and ensuring buy in
- Strong verbal communication skills, able to communicate professionally and sensitively with a wide range of contacts in culturally diverse settings
- Strong organisational skills with an ability to work efficiently, prioritise, and deliver multiple projects to tight deadlines
- Excellent writing skills, able to summarise information accurately, draft clear internal reports and appropriate comms for external audiences
- Proven project management skills, specifically overseeing complex and evolving multi-stakeholder projects
- Demonstrable experience of managing and reporting on budgets
- Ability to approach projects strategically and tactically: can see the forest AND the trees
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and project management processes
- Knowledge of, and strong interest in, international development and global health issues
- Understanding of the role of advocacy and communications in achieving political change
