Free Tibet is a small but effective campaign organisation based in south London. We’re looking for a Fundraising Manager who can transform our routine fundraising and lead expert strategies for income generation. This role is best suited to an experienced solo fundraiser who is confident in managing multiple streams of income, but we welcome applications from any fundraiser with a diverse skillset and collaborative way of working.
We are currently implementing a pay grading system at Free Tibet, offering increases with each year of service. The salary for this position starts at £40,000.

Job Description
Fundraising
- Oversee all income-generation activity across Free Tibet and Tibet Watch. Ensure continuous improvement and innovation and an appropriate balance of fundraising activity across all streams. Current streams include postal appeals, online appeals, and the Free Tibet online shop.
- Manage applications for grant funding on behalf of both Free Tibet and Tibet Watch, working with the Fundraising Officer to build a strong portfolio of five and six-figure grants and steward them for renewal.
- Lead on the recruitment and retention of donors, especially Major Donors, and redevelop supporter journeys and stewardship programs.
- Evaluate new ideas for income generation and strategies for implementation, especially corporate and challenge events / community fundraising.
- Impact reporting of fundraising activity and the performance of quarterly appeals, with a view to improve internal processes for greater income innovation and ROI.
- Liaise with the Free Tibet Campaigns & Research Teams to ensure that campaigning, digital and fundraising activities are seamlessly coordinated.
- Managing relationships with third party agencies, like mailing services and digital mobilisation agencies, making sure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to the highest standard.
- Ensure that our new Client Relationship Management (CRM) system, Raiser’s Edge NXT, is used effectively and to its full potential.
- Take a supporter-facing role in managing relationships with Major Donors, leading by example in securing mission-critical income.
- When needed, providing on-the-ground support for direct marketing, including copywriting and editing.
Leadership & Management
- Line manage the Fundraising Team, which currently consists of a full-time Fundraising Officer, part-time Administrative Assistant, and part-time Supporter Care & Shop Officer, nurturing their professional development and working collaboratively to produce fundraising projects.
- Act as a leader within the organisation, representing staff to the board and executive committee where appropriate.
- Work with the Finance and HR manager to monitor expenditure against budget and prepare regular reports on expenditure and projected income for the Free Tibet and Tibet Watch boards.
- Develop annual and project-specific Fundraising Strategies, reporting on appropriate indicators.
General Responsibilities

Person Specification
Essential
- Proven ability to look at the big picture of an organisation’s fundraising and prioritise what needs particular attention.
- Proven track record of delivering income across one or more of following income streams:
- Individual Giving: postal appeals, online appeals; emergency appeals; matched giving campaigns.
- Major Donor Fundraising: soliciting and stewarding donations from HNWIs; prospects research; Major Donor recruitment.
- Trusts and Foundations: soliciting and stewarding major grant
- Digital fluency with a deep understanding of how this relates to fundraising.
- Line management of other fundraisers, especially with agile working and diverse skill sets.
- Experience of overseeing the development of team members.
- Excellent knowledge of proper practice in fundraising data and compliance, especially with reference to The Code of Fundraising Practice and GDPR principles.
- Confident reporting directly to the Board of Trustees and representing staff interests.
- Commitment to Free Tibet’s mission.
Desirable
- Experience of working in a high intensity environment, working collaboratively and skillfully in response to fast-moving developments in global news.
- Personal achievement/s securing five or six-figure grants, especially for research or human rights projects.
- Experience of managing lead generation campaigns at both a strategist and practitioner level, especially Facebook ads, with past examples of success.
- Experience using RENXT, Mailchimp, and digital tools (e.g. Engaging Networks or Impact Stack).

A little bit about the role
The fundraising manager role sits in the fundraising team within the external relations division. The fundraising team is responsible for raising between £1m and £1.5m in fundraised income annually. Frontline’s philanthropic income complements the significant contract income the charity receives from central and local government and enables the charity to carry out its broader mission to create social change for hundreds of thousands of disadvantaged children.
Since we were founded in 2013, Frontline has leveraged its success to build committed, high impact partnerships with a number of prestigious supporters including, trusts and foundations, corporates and high net worth individuals. Our new fundraising strategy focuses on continuing to grow our network of supporters by maintaining excellent relationships with our current funders while identifying new potential donors, and at the same time testing and developing fundraising through community and events and individual giving.
We are now looking for a fundraising manager to help drive this strategy forward. The successful candidate will have experience across a range of fundraising areas (in particular community and events fundraising, individual giving, digital fundraising as well as corporate or major donors) to add strength to the team and allow us to pilot new fundraising initiatives.
Some key responsibilities include:
- Lead on developing our public fundraising income (individual giving/community and events fundraising), working with other teams and external agencies where suitable to increase engagement among our audiences and grow our public fundraising income.
- Work with and develop relationships with existing corporate supporters and bring on board new corporate supporters to grow income from this area, including through staff fundraising activities
- Work with other teams to develop opportunities to bring funders closer to our work and help inspire a culture of fundraising across the charity.
- Support the head of fundraising with the development of Frontline’s long-term fundraising strategy, monitoring progress towards annual revenue goals.

You’ll be an enthusiastic target-driven fundraiser, with experience in building up public fundraising (including community, events and individual giving) and working towards financial targets and growing income. We’d like to see someone with strong writing skills, and are able to express creative and sometimes complex ideas in simple and effective language.

Our projects focus on education, child protection, and livelihood support to address the social, economic, and structural issues underpinning today’s education crisis. We partner with local organizations and communities to deliver our locally rooted programs. We use evidence to drive learning and the refinement and scale-up of programs to create maximum impact for most children at the lowest cost. We pride ourselves on being willing to go to the world’s most challenging places where others won’t, including remote, hard-to-reach areas and fragile, disaster-affected states across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Since 2008 we have helped over 250,000 children go to school and learn and supported over 25,000 families to set up businesses to afford the cost of educating their children.
Part 1: Role Purpose:
This role aims to offer financial and operations management support to Great Lakes and Central Africa Region programs, focusing majorly on Street Child Programmes in DRC. The role reports to both Great Lakes and Central Africa Regional Representative and Head of Finance in Africa.
The role holds a senior position within the Street Central Africa Region team and will oversee Street Child – financial and operational setup to support operationalizing all program/project implementation in full compliance with donors’ and SC operational standards. The role will also provide financial support to programs across Great Lakes and Central Africa and partner organizations to support the development and implementation of robust financial management and reporting systems and assess and strengthen the control environment, financial management, grant management, and reporting. It will be building the finance and grants management capacity of Street Child staff and partners. A vital part of this is facilitating communication between Programmes and Finance staff.
Part 2: Key Responsibilities:
Finance Management:
- Supervise the country's standard financial systems establishment and maintenance in line with STREET-CHILD Financial Policy and Procedures, donor and local legislation requirements to provide appropriate levels of security and controls over the organization's resources and operations across the country to ensure success, consistency, and compliance.
- Develop and update quarterly the country's Master Budget to ensure that all funding gaps are covered.
- Provide strong leadership to the Finance and Admin team in all offices, whether with direct line management or technical, ensuring competent and motivated staff are hired and retained.
- Provide financial advice to the budget holders and local partners, ensure adequate support is provided to the program, and ensure the alignment of resource allocations with organizational priorities at the budgeting and implementation stages.
- Ensure that monthly accounting closure is timely, accurate, and compliant with STREET-CHILD financial policies and procedures for all Street-Child field offices and perform the bank reconciliation as appropriate.
- Using the Street-Child accounting system, produce the Budget Vs.—actuals for internal use by the country team and budget holders on a monthly basis.
- Oversee all financial and logistical requests made by the technical team and ensure they are in line with the Street-Child guidelines (Advance request, travel request, leave request, Toil request).
- Lead on applying Street-Child anti-fraud and anti-corruption policy and ensure all DRC staff understand and adhere to it, including Zero tolerance.
- Ensure regular financial and operational checks are performed for each local partner involved in Street-Child project implementation.
- Elaborate, review, and update Finance Standard Operating Procedures for STREET-CHILD DRC and across the Central and Great Lakes region as required and relevant.
- Conduct spot checks on transactions be responsible for maintaining transparency and accountability within finance and administration.
- Build financial management capacity for local partners in the region.
Grant Management and Budget proposal:
- Collaborating with other managers during proposal development, lead on the costing in proposal writing.
- Produce grant financial reports for donors in their formats.
- With the Senior Programme Manager, co-lead monthly grants review meetings involving all active partners.
- Manage the budget review, cost extension, realignment, and alert on any potential risk.
- Ensure appropriate measures are taken to address audit findings and recommendations associated with all grants.
- Conduct grant management training for local partners and provide orientation on finance matters and tools to non-finance staff.
Operations Oversight:
- Lead all aspects of HR, administration, procurement and logistics in the region
- Adequately manage internal and external HR and admin risks, highlight & resolve relevant issues with national institutions with support from the country leadership team (Taxes, labour inspection).
- Maintain daily responsibility for local staff issues, i.e., contracts, payroll, job descriptions, salary scales, leave, and benefit in support of the HR and Admin Assistant.
- Facilitate frequent staff meetings, and update the staff on the new Street-Child guidelines, regulations, etc.
- Lead the outsourcing of some services such as staff medical insurance, legal issues and the adherence to national labour laws, taxation systems and rules, social security, and insurance rules, etc.
- Lead in running procurement, ensuring value for money and overseeing all contracts which are placed with suppliers
- Ensure that all necessary agreements, permits, and licenses for Street-Child operations in DRC are in place, and keep updated on national rules and regulations pertaining to Street-Child activities.
- Lead staff adherence to all processes and ensure strict and contextualized application across the DRC program.

Education / Qualifications:

Main purpose and scope of Role

About the role and team
Working within the wider Supporter Acquisition and Retention teams, you will play a crucial role in creating engaging onboarding journeys for Shelter supporters, ensuring engagement is high throughout. Lady Margaret Hall is seeking an Associate Development Director (Major Gifts). This is a senior position within the Development Team reporting to the Director of Development. The Associate Development Director will manage a portfolio of 100 or so prospects and donors, some of whom we have little contact with, and others who will be engaged. 2. Job Description
The Head of External Engagement is a key leadership post within the organisation. The role encompasses responsibility for the development and delivery of the organisation’s external activity, including profile, brand identity and stakeholder engagement (including the public), fundraising, and driving income generation in new areas, notably commercial partnerships. It also forms part of Sound and Music’s senior management team, who under the leadership of the Chief Executive are responsible for overseeing the organisation’s programme of activity, strategic development, external profile and a positive and productive organisational culture.
An experienced fundraiser and communicator, you will lead the external engagement team and support the delivery of its strategic and operational plans. The broad remit of the role means the successful candidate will be a strong and confident communicator who builds networks easily and prioritises exceptional stakeholder management and relationship development.

3. Key Responsibilities
Leadership and management
External leadership:
· Represent Sound and Music publicly, including through stakeholder and supporter events

Internal leadership:

Development and fundraising
· Develop and support the Chief Executive on the overall business and development strategy for the organisation to ensure we meet fundraising targets (£200k in 2024-25) for annual programmes and major projects
· Develop an ambitious fundraising programme which builds our supporter base and individual funding streams, including individuals, major gifts and public funders
· Drive income growth by identifying and negotiating commercial partnerships and contribute to the development of an enhanced commercial mindset across the organisation
· Develop and cultivate the existing trusts and foundations pipeline
· Prepare documents and reports for key funders including Arts Council England
· Build and maintain positive and productive relationships with key funders, commercial organisations and stakeholders and cultivate existing relationships within the organisation
· Establish new income streams, for example, by maximising the intellectual property created within the organisation
· Engage the Board of Trustees and senior management team in fundraising activities and the ongoing strategy to optimise donor management and stewardship to develop a culture of fundraising across the organisation

Communications and campaigns
· Develop and lead the overall communications and reputation management strategy for varied stakeholders to ensure we increase our visibility and influence in the sector

Strategy and planning
· Work with the Chief Executive and other senior management team members to monitor, evaluate and review KPIs, strategies and activity so as to maximise Sound and Music’s impact. This includes reporting and presenting to the Board and externally to help build engagement and relationships in the sector and with funders
· Assess the reputational, financial, delivery and other risks associated with current and new projects and partnerships
· Empower, model, support and encourage cross-team working to realise the full income generating possibilities of projects
Finance and governance
· Contribute to creating and monitoring the overall organisation budget
· Work closely with the Chief Executive, Head of Programmes and Finance Manager to formulate financial strategy against specified budget areas, and to ensure that the programme activity is sufficiently resourced, planned and delivered to budget
· Ensure close monitoring of income and expenditure for relevant budget lines and contribute to senior management team financial planning and review
