The Royal Academy of Music is one of the oldest music schools in the UK, founded in 1822. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate training across a variety of musical disciplines, including instrumental performance, composition, jazz, musical theatre and opera. The Academy’s charitable aim is to provide high-quality musical education and training. It offers scholarships and bursaries to support talented students who might not otherwise be able to afford to attend. Legacies are an integral part of the Academy’s income, accounting for around 30% of fundraised income each year and supporting a range of key priorities, from scholarships and bursaries to artistic projects and capital investments.
The Senior Legacies Manager is a reworked position that will manage relationships with high-value legacy pledges and create and implement a legacy marketing strategy for the Academy. This is an exciting opportunity for a legacy professional who is keen to develop their career and looking for a potential stepping stone to a head of level role.
About the role
- Responsible for legacy income of between £2.5-3 million a year
- Management of the legacy portfolio, ensuring excellent stewardship and communications to current and prospective high value pledgers
- Develop and implement a legacy fundraising and marketing strategy following an initial audit of the legacy programme and income
- Work with external legacy administration consultants, preparing reports for SMT and ensuring compliance
- Work with other fundraising teams to develop supporter journeys which include legacy pathways
- Ongoing internal engagement about legacies and the importance of legacy giving for the Academy
- Opportunity to develop an In-Memory product and structed In-Memory giving for the Academy
About you
- Experience of relationship based legacy fundraising as well as experience of legacy marketing
- Background from legacy fundraising at arts or Higher Education Institution is of specific interest but will consider candidates from the not for profit sector with the mix of relationship and marketing experience
- Candidates may also have a fundraising background from major gifts and legacy giving
- Able to see the potential of driving legacy acquisition and be able to build a proactive legacy marketing programme
- Interest in arts and culture with the ability to understand the passion that the Academy legacy givers have for the Academy

KHCCC has been a cornerstone of Barking and Dagenham for nearly a century, serving as a vibrant community hub where people gather for worship, celebration, and companionship. Since its establishment in 1929, it has been a place of solace and connection, remaining a vital part of the borough to this day. Their flagship site is renowned for its role as a local leader, offering a range of amenities such as the Street Kitchen café, Social Supermarket, diverse activities, preschool, and church gatherings, attracting hundreds of visitors weekly.
KHCCC are embarking on an exciting chapter, creating the new role of Director of Development (Children and Families). With their Christian values driving transformation, this role is pivotal. KHCCC are seeking an innovative leader to join their executive leadership team and help steer change.
This opportunity will involve leading the transformation of their established Pre-school into a thriving year-round nursery. Furthermore, it includes launching a new childcare service at their second church site, enriching family and children's initiatives, and strengthening ties with borough leaders and funding bodies. This role will be instrumental in establishing connections between KHCCC and other services, enabling the comprehensive development in a unified approach.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:
- Experience in creating and implementing operational strategies and overseeing changes.
- Ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- Experience in management, including overseeing teams and coordinating organisational tasks and responsibilities.
- A passion for family support and children's development.

Job Description
The Permanent Part Time (0.6) Head of Finance is a core member of the organisation's structure and is a strategic partner to the Director of Operations on all areas of finance. Responsibilities will include:
Run the accounting functions
- Manage payment runs and other banking.
- Manage payroll, pension and staff benefits as required.
- Administer investments and banking.
- Cashflow Management.
- Finance app management inc. Xero, ApprovalMax
Management accounts and planning
- Produce management accounts.
- Analyse trends and variances, and other analysis as required.
- Model company finances including budgets and 3-year business plan.
Compliance
- Manage VAT, corporation tax, and tax planning.
- Generate and review accounting and compliance policies.
- Work with auditors throughout the year as required.
- Implement and manage spending and authorisation controls.
The Successful Applicant
- Fully Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, ICAEW etc)
- 5+ years PQE
- Can demonstrate working independently and as finance lead with board responsibilities. (Experience in a SME preferable)
- May suit fractional or part-time (3 days/week). Flexible working possible.

This new Legacies Manager role is an exciting opportunity to deliver Speech and Language UK's first proactive legacy programme, which is a key part of their new strategy.
For 1.9 million children in the UK, learning to talk and understand words feels like an impossible hurdle. Speech and Language UK helps children with communication disabilities and provides a unique combination of specialist therapy, teaching and care for children, information for families, and training for teachers and other professionals.
To deliver their new strategy, the charity have created several exciting new roles, all aimed at embedding a relationship fundraising approach to engaging and inspiring institutional, high net worth and long-term supporters.
As Legacies Manager, you will develop, manage and grow the organisation’s legacies portfolio, including securing legacy pledges and stewarding donors who have chosen to leave a legacy gift.
There is an option to work remotely (UK-based) or hybrid (2dpw in Islington office) for this 21 hours a week, part-time role – please discuss options and FTE implications with Joe.
As Legacies Manager, you will:
- Work alongside the Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships to develop and implement Legacies operational plans to maximize income in line with agreed targets
- Lead and manage relationships with legacy supporters to achieve and exceed income targets
- Provide insight and learning so that the charity can optimize its initiatives both in lifetime-giving and legacy fundraising
- Build and maintain excellent relationships with a portfolio of actual and potential legacy supporters
Ideal skills and experience:
- Proven track record in legacy giving
- Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining relationships with legacy supporters
- Strong understanding of relationship fundraising and legacy giving, including the latest trends and opportunities
- Passion to support Speech and Language UK’s mission and values
