Job description

Manchester International Festival (MIF) will return in Summer ‘21 with a celebration of international culture, innovation and creativity. MIF invites great artists from across the globe to create extraordinary new work for the Festival, which is staged every two years at venues and found spaces across Manchester. Our future home is The Factory, a world-class cultural space being built in the heart of the city, where we’ll present a year-round programme and artists will be able to develop work of huge ambition and scale that they might not be able to anywhere else. We want to bring together a talented team of people, reaching out into every corner of Manchester and harness the talent and energy that is found across the city and beyond.

MIF’s Community Connector is one of the most critical roles within the organisation. Your job is to be out meeting, learning about and understanding the interests and motivations of the people of Manchester and the city-region and bringing this knowledge back to the team at MIF, to help us be responsive to the creative needs and interests of our local communities. You will be MIF’s key representative with a wide range of stakeholders from housing associations to local councillors. We are looking for a brilliant communicator who loves working with and can relate to people of all ages and backgrounds, who has great ideas and a commitment to genuine long-term relationships with our communities.

− To broker relationships and build trust, understanding and mutual exchange between MIF and our host communities

− To lead on the development and co-ordination of MIF’s Young People’s and People’s Forums – public forums that meet regularly to inform the development of MIF and The Factory from a young person and wider community perspective - and other forms of shared decision making as appropriate

− To lead on planning and delivery of elements of MIF’s neighbourhood-related event activity such as MIF Socials, community presence at Festival Square and other community activations with support from MIF’s Creative Engagement, Production and Technical teams

− To deliver the internal and external community communications strategies working closely with MIF’s Communications teams

− To work closely with MIFs Engagement, Audience Development and Communication teams to inform, coordinate and deliver aspects of MIF’s plan to grow and diversify our audiences (including, for example, development of the new Neighbourhood Organiser programme and strategic allocation of discounted tickets to priority groups)

− Represent MIF at conferences and in meetings to share information with key communities and stakeholders (including, for example, local councillors and neighbourhood managers, community networks and leaders, and partner organisations)

− To monitor activity and manage the effective collation of data to inform evaluation

− To liaise with freelance staff, volunteers, ambassadors and fellows related to the delivery of this activity
