Job description

A fast-growing and well-respected Vegan charity is seeking a skilled Finance Officer for a part-time permanent role based in Birmingham. The role will be for 3 days per week (22.5 hours per week) initially, but there may be the chance to increase this in time.

This represents an exciting time to join the charity as they seek to expand both in the UK and internationally.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Officer will support the organisation on a range of accounting and reporting tasks including treasury management, balance sheet reconciliations, payroll administration, accounts payable and accounting entries.

The organisation currently has core staff of around 50 and is funded primarily by its Vegan licensing agreements, in addition to a small amount of membership income, charitable donations and legacies.

The organisation is seeking an experienced Finance Officer, who is ideally AAT part-qualified with empathy to Vegan causes & issues, and an interest in the not for profit sector.

Key duties will include:

-Assist with Accounts payable and receivables

-Balance sheet controls accounts – assisting with reconciliation reviews, investigation of discrepancies and unreconciling items

-Assist with external audit procedures

-Credit Control

-Assist with reporting of creditors’ and debtors’ ledgers

-Assist with prepayments and accruals process accurately and in line with month-end deadlines

-Assist in preparation of management accounts, in line with set deadlines

-Assist in development and analysis of financial commercial insight

-Perform ad hoc expense analysis and feedback to appropriate parties

-Assist in the reconciliation and management of key balance sheet codes

-Assisting with internal payroll

-Processing contractor invoices weekly

-Calculation of Income Tax; NI and Student Loan etc

-Administration of P45’s, P46, P11, and P60 forms

-Pensions management

Experience required:

-AAT qualified or part-qualified ideally

-Experience in a directly related, similar post

-Experience with assisting with management and statutory accounts

-Strong budgeting and financial management skills

-Accurate bookkeeping and managing control accounts

-Payroll administration experience is useful but not essential

-Tax administration and relief (VAT, PAYE year-end)

-Good IT skills and familiarity with accounting software

-Understanding of basic purchase and sales ledger processes, preparing bank reconciliations, putting together simple journal entries

It is not a requirement that applicants must be Vegan for this role, however an understanding and empathy with Vegan causes is required.
