Job Description

The 1851 Trust is a charitable foundation, which was established to be the official charity of Land Rover BAR and is based at their state of the art headquarters in Portsmouth. The Trust aims to engage young people in the exciting opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) through sailing and the inspiration of the Land Rover BAR team in their challenge for the America’s Cup. The ultimate aim is to inspire young people to both study STEM subjects and ultimately pursue related careers, especially in the maritime field.


The Duchess of Cambridge is the Royal Patron and Sir Ben Ainslie is Patron of the 1851 Trust, which is chaired by Sir Keith Mills. The board of Trustees comprises of a number of high profile individuals from the worlds of business and sailing.

The 1851 Trust is a young but fast-growing organisation, and with a number of key programmes having been recently launched, is at a stage of organisational development which requires this new post – to raise the profile of the Trust in order to attract participants to its programmes and also potential new investors and sponsors.


JOB TITLE: Marketing and Communications Manager
REPORTING TO: CEO
HOURS OF WORK: Part Time – 3 days per week equivalent, working hours to be agreed
CONTRACT: Permanent
LOCATION: Portsmouth
START DATE: March 2017 or sooner
SALARY: £25,000 - £35,000 pa according to experience, pro-rata
