About the RSS and this role
The Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is one of the world’s leading organisations advocating for the importance of statistics and data - and statistics and data have never been more vital. We’re looking for an exceptional, experienced writer, editor and communicator to deliver and lead our range of key platforms and publications.
Working with staff and members across the RSS, you will oversee and support projects that advance the science of statistics, bring data scientists together to share real-world problems and solutions, and make statistical tools, methods and applications understandable to journalists, policymakers and the wider public.
Head of Content is a new role for the RSS and is designed to enable a more strategic approach to the editorial work we deliver. You will coordinate content across the Society, ensuring outputs and derivative products are tailored and targeted to meet the different needs and interest levels of different audiences. Our membership and wider audiences are expanding, and the Head of Content will develop a content strategy that sets a framework for content that is aligned with RSS policy objectives and strategic goals, and targeted at and adapted for different audiences to ensure the widest possible reach.
The post will require a mix of hands-on content creation and editorial leadership. One of your first tasks will be to transition Real World Data Science, our publication for data science practitioners, to new editorial arrangements to ensure its continued growth as a platform for knowledge sharing across academia, industry and the public sector. This will also provide you the opportunity to work alongside key members and stakeholders who are leading our response to the challenges and opportunities posed by recent developments in artificial intelligence.

Our Head of Content will:

Work with wider RSS staff to develop our understanding of the preferences and needs of key internal and external audiences to better align content to those preferences and needs.

Lead the creation and delivery of a fully-costed plan for content development, maintenance and review that aligns with key strategic goals and activities.

Create or commission accurate, engaging, up-to-date and challenging content that fulfils particular editorial briefs, establishing and liaising with editorial boards to ensure technical integrity of published content.

Identify relevant experts within the RSS membership and engage them in content creation initiatives, formalising a network of contributors and providing editorial support and advice.

Liaise with third-party organisations and funders to identify topics/areas of mutual interest to provide additional sources of support/funding for new content initiatives.

Our team in Energy Saving Trust manages the national Home Energy Scotland service on behalf of the Scottish Government. What's the role about?
As a team player with a positive and diligent approach, you will:
- Look after your own portfolio of donors as well as reaching out to prospects and new donors. You will be responsible for fundraising information to advance plans and ensure prospect and donor records are accurate, incorporating any changes, new activities, updated plans, and new information as well as adding new relationships in keeping with data protection and team procedures.
- Work closely with your team and wider organisation colleagues to implement solicitation strategies, to secure financial support either by direct solicitation, preparing a written proposal, or working with senior management to make a solicitation.
- Be involved in the development of funding proposals for approved priority projects that will inspire potential donors to secure gifts.
- Contribute to the planning of and participate actively in events (face to face and online) to build relationships with donors and prospects for future income and to demonstrate the impact of gifts already received.
- Arrange meetings with individual donors at a variety of venues, including at our reserves, working closely with area and reserve colleagues to deliver an excellent experience for our supporters
- Be jointly responsible for the planning, writing, production and mailing of Philanthropy Matters, our publication aimed at philanthropic supporters.
- Build effective relationships both within the RSPB and external to it that will enhance its reputation and ultimately secure funding. This includes understanding donors’ wishes and aspirations and identifying links with approved priority projects with the aim of securing substantial gifts.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
- Intermediate levels of fundraising as demonstrated by work successes and recognised fundraising courses
- Experience in how to research and cultivate a prospect. And understanding of how to write a cultivation strategy
- Ability to write funding proposals and prepare briefing documents in advance of meetings and events
- Competent in the use of a CRM system (Salesforce), the Microsoft suite, other databases, research tools and methods
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members, and people and teams outside of our department
- Good judgement when working with donors and ability to recognise potentially sensitive areas between prospects and the RSPB to ensure reputational values are maintained
- Experience of having successfully managed and developed donor relationships leading to substantial support.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced marketing communications professional to work with our Executive Director and small staff team to help us meet the needs of 1000+ members working on a wide range of policies and programmes in the UK and internationally.. This role will be varied and involve significant elements of the full range of marketing and communications activity, leading on campaigns to increase membership, grow our training and events programme and deepen our influence with government, academic, private and voluntary sector stakeholders.
You can be based anywhere in the UK and we offer up to 10% employer contribution to your pension.
We are particularly seeking someone with experience of working in a social sciences, science or evaluation-focussed organisation.

We are in search of a dynamic Communications and Marketing Manager to propel our growth and amplify our impact. As a storyteller, innovator, and change-maker, you will not only manage external communications but also craft compelling narratives and marketing campaigns that resonate with our diverse stakeholders.
In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for creating and disseminating engaging content, managing media relations, and leveraging social media and other digital platforms to advance BIF’s objectives in campaigning, fundraising, and brand awareness on both domestic and international fronts. You will craft and oversee the execution of BIF’s integrated communications and marketing strategy, collaborating closely with team members and partners. The ability to adapt to a continually evolving workplace and inspire others towards embracing change is crucial.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Communication and Marketing: Formulate and implement strategies that support our goals, combining storytelling with marketing initiatives to enhance public engagement and stimulate donor and volunteer participation.
- Channel Management and Optimisation: Manage and optimise all communication and marketing channels, including social media, websites, and email marketing, ensuring brand consistency and message effectiveness.
- Content Creation and Branding: Develop compelling, brand-aligned content for various platforms to engage our audience and articulate our mission vividly.
- Social Media Strategy and Analytics: Utilise analytics to refine social media strategies, enhancing audience growth and engagement.
- Integrated Campaigns: Collaborate on integrated communication and marketing campaigns that align with and support organisational goals.
- Media and Public Relations: Forge and maintain positive media relationships to secure favourable coverage, managing all inquiries with professionalism.
- Marketing Material Development: Oversee the production of high-quality promotional materials to support fundraising and awareness campaigns.
- Support for Fundraising Initiatives: Generate persuasive communication materials to showcase our mission’s impact, aiding fundraising efforts.

Competencies and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in communications and marketing management.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Excellent knowledge of digital marketing, social media, and public relations principles.
- Experience with fundraising, donor engagement, and campaign management.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in utilising modern communication, marketing, and analytical tools.
- Strong project management capabilities and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- At least 3 years of experience in communications and marketing management, including dealing with and managing external marketing and communications agencies.

About You:
As a seasoned leader with a stellar track record in developing 6-7 figure new corporate partnerships within a charity setting, you will be adept at identifying and cultivating a pipeline of prospects, crafting compelling and emotionally resonant propositions and proposals tailored to a corporate audience, and influencing and negotiating with senior business decision-makers. Your efforts will align seamlessly with our mission, ethical guidelines and industry best practices.

The Mulberry Centre’s vision is to be known and respected by everyone living or working within reach of our services who may become affected by cancer. To help us achieve this, we are looking for an experienced and inspiring Marketing and Communications Lead to help raise the profile of The Mulberry Centre and the services we provide, to help recruit staff and volunteers, and to support fundraising and community engagement.
You will be able to promote the voice of the people who use our services in our communications, as well as help build our reputation as a charity of excellence for cancer support and a credible partner with external stakeholders. Working collaboratively across the team, you will develop, deliver and co-ordinate an integrated and effective marketing and communications plan. You will take the overall responsibility for external marketing and communication activities for The Mulberry Centre.
You will have an established track record of marketing and communications work, including digital and social media, and an ability to write and edit copy for different audiences. You will manage website updates, social media posts, e-newsletters and news releases, and have a proven ability to develop and execute an impactful marketing and communications plan. As a small charity, this post is very much “hands-on” and requires an ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at a time. You will be key to making sure that we are known by everyone living or working within reach of our services who may become affected by cancer.
