We are seeking an experienced Finance Officer to join our team as soon as possible, working 35 hours over a 5 day week. Normal working hours are between 8.30-10am and 4.30-6pm. Some flexibility can be offered over the pattern of hours worked.
The Finance Officer is responsible for assisting the Finance Manager with the daily operations of the finance team, including the processing of income receipts and expenditure invoices, preparing cash and bank reconciliations and maintaining control of debtors and creditors. You will be responsible for processing the day to day finance information across all our activities, supporting the Finance Manager, and ensuring a well-ordered system of financial control is maintained for the Mary Ward Settlement group so that our business operations can thrive and that budget holders are able to manage their areas of responsibility effectively.
You will, additionally, have involvement in the external and internal audit processes, and for supporting the finance team in the preparation of financial reports to external agencies such as the ESFA and other funders as required.
You will have an experience of working with a finance team, preparing nominal ledger postings and managing the recording of income and expenditure. You may be in the process of studying for, or intending to study for an accountancy qualification. Experience of working within the charitable or education sector, along with an understanding of Sage finance are desirable.
This role is ideal for a candidate who has the experience of working in a small team, either within the charity sector, or who is looking to move from a commercial organization to a small, friendly team where there is an opportunity be become involved in a wide variety of tasks, and where there is a possibility to progress in the organization.
Mary Ward Settlement is a registered charity trading as the Mary Ward Centre, an Adult Education College regulated and primarily funded by the ESFA. Additionally, it is the ultimate holding company for the Mary Ward Legal Centre, a registered charity which provides legal advisory and support services, and the Blackfriars Settlement, a registered charity which provides a range of educational and community based activities, primarily for older people and those with mental health concerns. The activities of the Mary Ward Settlement group of charities are all aimed at helping people to improve their lives.
The job is based in our Grade 2 listed Georgian building in the heart of London (Bloomsbury) easily accessible by public transport.
Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: Salary - £25,235 – £28,375 (Includes London Weighting)
Annual Leave: 35 Days plus Bank Holidays
NEST Pension Scheme - 2% employee contribution and 6% employer contribution
