Two exciting grants programme officer roles have arisen at the Maudsley Charity in our Programmes team. This team is responsible for designing and delivering grant funding programmes, and managing relationships with our grant holders to make an impact in the field of mental health.
The Maudsley Charity – Grants Programme Officer x2
Location: Ortus, Denmark Hill, London 50% (and home working)
Salary: £34,000 per annum plus excellent benefits
Contract: Permanent
Maudsley Charity works primarily with South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London, as well as a range of voluntary and community organisations to fund ideas, big and small, that drive service improvement and support people who experience mental illness.
The charity operates primarily within the four boroughs served by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham, and Southwark), but the work they fund has the potential for wider impact at both national and international levels, through the sharing of the outcomes with the wider mental health community.
Their small but busy team works in a very collaborative and supportive way. They are now seeking two Grants Programme Officers to manage grant application processes and a grant portfolio, with guidance from a Programme Manager.
The ideal candidate will be self-organised and highly motivated and will have experience of grant-making processes, gained either by working at a funder or as a recipient of grant funding, they will be passionate about improving mental health and motivated by the ability of the Charity to make a difference.

Playing a key part in the Senior Leadership team, the new Director of Services (Deputy CEO) will provide effective leadership, managing the development and strategic direction in line with the strategic plan, and Oxfordshire Mind’s policies and procedures, meeting all regulatory and legal requirements of running a large and complex charitable organisation.

You will have:
- Experience in a leadership role within in mental health organisations, healthcare settings, or related industries.
- A proven track record of the ability to inspire, motivate, and guide teams toward achieving goals. Proficiency in performance management and talent development.
- A wide range of experience dealing with various difficult situations, including interpersonal conflicts, organisational challenges, disputes, and high-pressure scenarios.
- A strong track record of effectively leading organisational change initiatives, fostering a positive and adaptable culture, and ensuring smooth transitions.
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences. Skill in negotiation, conflict management, presentation, and interpersonal communication.
You will act as an effective representative for the organisation, communicating with a wide range of people, and the ability to develop messaging, manage information flow, and respond quickly to mitigate reputational risks both internally and externally.
You may be in a similar role or can demonstrate your ability to step up into a role with the ability to set a compelling vision for the future and inspire others to work towards it. A forward thinker, you will be able to influence and persuade stakeholders, gaining buy-in for strategies and initiatives. You will have passion and enthusiasm and a genuine interest in the sector, and a desire to contribute to its growth and success.

Samaritans is a charity providing a safe place for people to talk, round the clock, every single day of the year. They are dedicated to reducing feelings of isolation and disconnection that can lead to suicide.
There are 201 Samaritans branches located across the UK and Ireland. People can get in touch by phone, email, letter or by visiting a branch. Volunteers also do outreach work, for example, at festivals, prisons, hospitals and schools. During 2021, around 22,000 people volunteered their time for Samaritans.
- Almost 20,000 trained listening volunteers responded to calls for help.
- Around 2,500 volunteers supported the running of more than 200 branches and locations across the UK and Ireland.
- Over 1,300 people in prison volunteered as trained Listeners.
As a vital part of the Trust and Statutory fundraising team, the Stratutory Manager will report to the Head of Trusts and Statutory and work closely with project teams across the organisation, including senior operational leads and the Communications and Campaigns Team. With a strong ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments, the prison estate and statutory agencies, the role has responsibility for co-ordination of operational and financial information for key strategy programmes, identifying statutory funding opportunities and ensuring timely, high-quality reporting.
As Statutory Manager, you will:
- Research and develop statutory funding sources at 5- and 6-figure level, identifying funders and scoping out funding opportunities, supporting a team income target of c£4.5m.
- Be responsible for applications, reports, relationships and stewardship communications with Statutory funders, including DHSC, and prison funders
- Proactively pull together application materials, wording, project outlines and budgets to create a compelling case for support against key programmes, projects or themes in line with likely statutory funding opportunities
- Engage and liaise with key stakeholders across the organisation, securing relevant sign off for timely submission of bids
Ideal skills and experience:
- Experience of statutory fundraising from government or lottery sources at 4- or 5-figure level
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a portfolio of applications and funding relationships, developing strong cultivation, stewardship and engagement opportunities to grow partnerships with funders
- Build and maintain a personal and organisational profile with external stakeholders within relevant government departments
