Job description

The young people, children and families that we support are at the heart of everything we do at Mermaids. The work that we do has significantly expanded and we now need a highly effective and experienced grants & fundraising officer to join us to build relationships with key stakeholders locally, regionally and nationally, generating income from trusts and grants.

We encourage applications from those with lived experiences (directly or indirectly) and/or close ties to the LGBTQ+ community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop Mermaids’ grants and foundations streams

  • Achieve agreed income targets through researching and identifying suitable bodies to apply to current and new trust and foundation supporters

  • Plan, organise and execute own workload of fundraising approaches to a variety of regional and national trusts 

  • Use a broad range of research tools to identify new potential funders, matching them strategically to the work of Mermaids

  • Account manage and steward trust and foundation supporters through email, telephone, written proposals and other forms of communication with the aim of ensuring their on-going and increasing support and developing good working relationships with them 

  • Collect and save key grant documentation and information in the relevant files and on Mermaid’s donor management system, Raisers Edge

  • Creating and maintaining trust records using CRM

  • Ensure projects are managed in accordance with grant conditions and that reports are produced in a timely manner with up to date information on Mermaids’ activities to increase donor involvement, loyalty and funding

  • Monitor progress against targets in line with the fundraising strategy

  • Keep accurate and accessible financial records for forecasting on an ongoing basis

  • Stay up to date with external developments that may impact on your area of work

  • Advise on likely fundraising or reputational risks and recommended courses of action
