Job description

You will be working with passionate and dedicated people who pride themselves on their achievements with the local community and support each other. MSDP is a long-standing Charity within Merseyside/Wirral.

MSDP is a charity that has been involved with the Deaf and Deaf Blind community for over 150 years. It was founded by George Healy, a Deaf man, who in May 1864 established The Liverpool Adult Deaf and Dumb Benevolent Society. The society provided an employment bureau and sometimes employment for the jobless, interpreters for all occasions, social gatherings for the Deaf Blind and financial help for the poor.

In the late 1980s the Society’s head office relocated to Queens Drive in West Derby, Liverpool. 3 years ago this office was replaced by a purpose built modern building in the same location. This location is a central place in Liverpool and is easy to access via public transport. The Society also has an office on the Wirral and bases in Sefton.

MSDP offer a wide range of services to assist the Deaf and Deaf Blind members of our community and their families. Our services consist of Duty, Support, Equipment and Advice. We also offer Deaf Awareness courses at corporate level, including Schools and Hospitals. We have Deaf tutors that deliver our British Sign Language (BSL) courses from Level 1 to Level 6 and we offer Interpreter courses too. We pride ourselves on our high success rates.

MSDP require a committed person to drive our organisation forward. You will have a Minimum BSL level 2 qualification and you will have proven that you are a dynamic and inspirational leader.

An important part of the COO's role is to represent the charity to external audiences and work with surrounding organisations, to ensure that everyone can access our services. So, confidence in meeting people and public speaking will be essential.

Travelling to our other MSDP offices and other organisations will be required.
