This is an exciting opportunity to oversee the governance of the Methodist Church and act as the principal adviser on legal and constitutional matters.
In your role as Conference Officer for Legal and Constitutional Practice you will form part of the senior management group responsible for the affairs of the Methodist Church at national level and will have particular responsibility for managing the Legal, Governance and Safeguarding teams and leading on embedding good governance practice across the Church. You will provide legal and constitutional advice to local church, circuit and district trustees, and also oversee the complaints and discipline process of the Church.
To enjoy and make a success of this role you must have the skills and competencies to be able to operate effectively within a complex governance system, to identify areas where proactive steps should be taken and influence decision making as necessary.
You will have or be able speedily to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the governance structures and working of the Methodist Church, and will already have such knowledge of the requirements of charity law.
Your experience may come from a public, private, or voluntary sector background. You should also be able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and have experience of the strategic planning of work.
You must have a legal qualification and ideally will also be a qualified company secretary. The constitution of the Methodist Church currently also requires that you must be a member of the Methodist Church.
