An Comunn Gaidhealach (An Comunn) is a Company Limited by Guarantee and a Registered Scottish Charity. It exists for the promotion of the language and culture of the Gaels.

Their main office base is Inverness.

Job Description

Reporting to the Chair and Board of Directors the successful person will be responsible for the following:-

  • Establish and manage a process of continuous development for annual delivery of the Royal National Mod and 18 Provincial Mods
  • Effective communication and development of the Membership
  • Liaising with current and identifying new sponsors while accessing all sources of funding from both Public and Private sources
  • Promoting the use of Gaelic in every day community life
  • Promoting the study and development of the Gaelic Language, literature, music, drama and all other related art forms
  • Actively seeking official recognition and use of Gaelic as a living language and national asset by local, national and other agencies, by co-operating with all other organisations involved with the development and promotion of Gaelic language and culture
  • Acting as a strong figurehead for the charity; a positive ambassador with external partners and a positive leader and role model for employees and volunteers
  • Directing the organisation's operations, managing its resources, compliance with legal requirements, and ensuring good practice in all aspects of its work

The Successful Applicant


Fluent in Gaelic, both verbal and written

  • Financial Management
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding people management skills coupled with the ability to adapt your management style to suit circumstances and individuals
  • Experience of representing an organisation at a senior level with key stakeholders including Government and high-profile funders/sponsors
  • Robust knowledge of Charity Governance, Policies and statutory requirements
  • A track record in driving successful fundraising and courting potential sponsors
  • Personal drive, energy, integrity and adaptability
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Inclusive and flexible, with a consultative approach to leadership while creating a positive and pro-active impact


  • Ideally you will have an understanding of Scots Law (from a contract negotiation perspective)
