Job description

Millennium Journal of International Studies aims to publish the most innovative peer- reviewed articles from the discipline of international studies, as well as original thinking from elsewhere in the social sciences with an international dimension. Interdisciplinary and wide-ranging in scope, the journal provides a forum for discussion on the latest developments in the theory of international relations.

Millennium is seeking an accountant to assist on a range of activities including year-end statutory accounts, monthly management accounts and other statutory returns and month/year end processing and reconciliations.

Main responsibilities:

  • Assist the Business Manager in the year-end statutory accounts (Companies House and Charities Commission).
  • Advise and improve on Millennium’s current budget and expense tracking mechanisms.

  • Advise on how best to keep the accounting records of the charity and develop financial policy recommendations to Millennium on its accounting processes.

  • Prepare accounts for independent examinations.

Ad-hoc duties:

  • Provide assistance with monthly reconciliations.

  • Generate management reports to be used in Board of Trustees meetings.

  • Produce budgets.

Person specification:

  • Part or fully qualified accountant (depending on experience).

  • Problem solver with a curious mind.

  • Ability to prioritise work and meet tight deadlines.

  • Experience working in small charity.

  • Experience and/or interest in working in a small team in a university environment.

Hours: The Accountant will be engaged on a casual basis with between 5 to 10 hours of work required per week in May and August 2020. Outside of these time periods, Millennium may engage the Accountant for ad hoc assistance, up to 10 hours per week.

Remuneration: The Accountant will be remunerated on a hourly basis at the rate of £21 per hour.
