Job description

Do you have significant experience of working with mental health service users and delivering an advocacy or mental health information service?  Do you have a creative approach to problem-solving and a track record of supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged adults to access the services they need?  Do you enjoy training and developing volunteers to provide a high-quality service?  We are seeking a passionate and energetic individual to join our committed team and coordinate Mind in Harrow's volunteer-run information & peer advocacy service.

Mind in Harrow is a leading mental health charity based in NW London, just three minutes from Harrow Metropolitan line station. We have an excellent reputation and our dynamic and creative team of 40 full- & part-time staff and 100 volunteers is driven by a strong user empowerment ethos.  We offer family-friendly working practices including home-working and flexible working days, enabling staff to have a fulfilling career alongside caring responsibilities.

Mind in Harrow works in partnership with other local charities to deliver the Support & Wellbeing Information Service Harrow (SWISH), providing timely and person-centred support in accordance with the Care Act Information & Advice requirements.  Mind in Harrow has also recently been awarded grant funding to continue to develop its pioneering On Your Side peer advocacy project, enhancing the tailored support around navigating the welfare and mental health systems that we are able to offer through casework.  We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to coordinate delivery of the Mind in Harrow’s SWISH and On Your Side services, and promote wellbeing and prevention to Harrow residents experiencing mental health problems and their carers.

The successful applicant will have experience of working in mental health and information services, will have a good understanding of volunteer management, safeguarding principles, working with diverse communities, and Care Act 2014 requirements for information & carers, and will have excellent partnership working skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.

You will be required to apply for an enhanced DBS check and be committed to promoting equality and challenging discrimination in all aspects of your work.
