This is an exciting time to join Muscular Dystrophy Support Centre (MDSC) at a key point in our development. We are a small but growing charity with a supportive and committed team and a flexible working environment. There is plenty of scope for the Clinical Manager to make a major impact.
The Clinical Manager will take over the management and coordination of our team of physiotherapists, osteopaths and complementary therapists. They will have responsibility for ensuring the clinical effectiveness of what we do as an organisation to support people with, and affected by, Muscular Dystrophy (MD). This will include oversight of the clinical diary maintained by the administrative team and creating an evidence base for scaling up our clinical approach across the Midlands in the longer term – helping to shape our future and develop the charity.
We are seeking candidates with a passion for service development and quality assurance. Those with relevant hands-on clinical experience are highly encouraged to apply and will be prioritised for consideration. There is scope to expand the role and hours to include some hands-on clinical hours for candidates with relevant clinical experience and interest.
Established in 2012, Muscular Dystrophy Support Centre (MDSC) was set up and is led by people with muscular dystrophy (pwMD) and their families. Our Board of Trustees all either have muscular dystrophy, or have a family member with muscular dystrophy. Our aim is to transform access to specialist physiotherapy for all pwMD (18+) in the Midlands region who need it. From our Centre in Coventry, and with satellite clinics in Birmingham and Loughborough, we support 400+ pwMD, primarily by providing specialist physiotherapy on a long-term basis. We are the only organisation in the Midlands region to do so, and one of only two in the UK.
In September 2019, we secured a five-year grant from the National Lottery Community Fund to build a platform for expansion to meet significant demand throughout the Midlands and beyond. Funding is enabling us to recruit additional staff, and build a strengthened organisational structure and finances, and the Clinical Manager will play a key role. By 2025 we plan to be supporting over 1,100 pwMD and provide therapy at a further three satellite clinics in the Black Country, Worcestershire and Northants. With a robust evaluation, the results of this project will act as a transformative lever: evidencing the effectiveness of our model in helping pwMD to live well with their condition.
