This is a great opportunity to provide leadership and co-ordination across all of Muscular Dystrophy UK’s marketing and communications work and to develop and implement the MDUK brand.

Managing and co-ordinating a small expert team, you will support them and harness their expertise to continue raising awareness and the profile of the charity and its work, ensuring that more people know of us and recognise us as a source of support; and provide opportunities to convert this into support of the charity. You will evolve and oversee the processes and working practices the team has recently developed to help maximise their capacity and impact.

You will bring specific marketing expertise to the charity and will finalise and begin delivery of our new marketing strategy which aims to maximise recognition and understanding of the charity and deepen relationships with key audiences.

The role will provide engaging and motivating leadership, coaching, management and development of your direct reports and will work closely with the Director of Care, Communications & Support and with the other Heads in the directorate as part of the directorate Leadership Team. 

Applicants

The successful candidate should have:

  • Demonstrable and extensive record of achievement at senior manager level in a high profile voluntary and/or public organisation
  • Extensive brand development and strategic marketing experience across the whole marketing mix
  • Extensive experience of raising the profile and reach of an organisation through integrated marketing and communication activity

Expectations in the role

  • To manage the completion and delivery of the charity’s marketing strategy, working with colleagues across the charity to develop the supporter proposition and supporter journey
  • To maintain strategic oversight of our external messaging and plan marketing in conjunction with colleagues
  • To work with the Director of Care, Communications & Support to set and manage the Marketing & Communications department budget
  • To ensure the smooth running of the marketing and communications function, effectively managing its processes and workflow and continuing to foster a culture of joined up collaborative working across the charity

This role is based at our office in Southwark, London with flexibility for home working 2-3 days a week. It is within a short walking distance of Southwark and Borough Tube stations. It is also a short distance from Waterloo Station, London Bridge Station and Blackfriars Station. We are also a 5 minute walk from the Tate Modern and Southbank, perfect place to go for lunch during the warm summer months.
