The National Portrait Gallery houses a unique collection of all forms of portraiture of the people who have made or are currently contributing to British history and culture; the collection is the most comprehensive of its kind in the world. With around 2 million visitors each year and a strong national and international presence through touring exhibitions and special projects, the Gallery is one of the country’s most important and popular galleries.

Philanthropy Manager

£32,400 per annum

Full-time, 40 hours per week

The National Portrait Gallery is looking for a Philanthropy Manager to lead on the recruitment and engagement of mid-level donors, oversee the delivery of a strong and engaging events programme for mid-level donors, and be a consistent presence at Patron events and other cultivation activities organised by the Gallery.

Reporting to the Head of Individual Giving, the Philanthropy Manager is responsible for securing income from and maintaining retention of the Gallery’s mid to major supporter schemes (gifts of £10,000-£100,000) including the Director’s Circle and Exhibition Supporter Groups.  The post holder will identify and approach individual donors to support a range of projects and programmes at the Gallery including acquisitions, commissions, research, conservation and learning.

We are looking for ambitious candidates who have substantial fundraising or experience in a related field, preferably gained within the arts or museum sector, alongside significant experience of leading a donor/supporter-focussed events programme. They will have a successful track record of the recruiting and retaining donors through personal contact, and soliciting and securing donations in person with experience of budget management and contributing to reaching income targets.
