Come and join our Visitor Experience team here at Hardwick.  Greet our 300,000 visitors by being on hand to help them create a memorable day at our very own special place.  The Hardwick Estate spans across parkland, well maintained gardens, internationally significant buildings and collections as well as the main visitor hubs within the stableyard, gatehouse and park centre.  With this role you will be present in these spaces at different times to chat to our supporters, discover their needs and ease them into their time at Hardwick.  Imagine being at the entrance to the Hall itself, looking out to the manicured lawns down towards the watchful eye of the Gatehouse entry point or out within the parkland chatting to our regular walkers who share their favourite routes as they pass by.  With our support you will become an exceptional service champion


By getting involved, you could

  • Be part of a team who push the boundaries to care for our visitors

  • Take part an in-depth estate induction, ongoing coaching and support

  • Be trained around customer service and how to make it exceptional

  • Use regularly our till systems and take part in transactions

  • You will be trained and support around health and safety, including evacuation of a 16th century building

  • Promote and sell membership, raffle ticket or guidebook to support our conservation work

  • All the above are great transferable skills into the world of employment


    What’s involved?

  • You could be sited anywhere on the estate.  This could be in the main entrance hall of the mansion, the admission points dotted across the visitor route or even engaging with those out and about on the estate
  • You will engage and be aware of their needs and what we have to offer for all visitors; those who may require additional support families with buggies, highlighting points of interest for children or supporting individual access needs
  • Be familiar and keep up to date on the National Trust Value, these will help you to be proactive in dealing with visitor queries and being able to think on your feet to deliver exceptional visitor service.

  • You will be the link between all of our amazing spaces on the estate, where you will be required to attend the suitable team briefing prior to your shift commencing.
  • Work closely with all teams to engage supporters in the work we do.

  • With training you will promote and sell the property raffle ticket alongside the National Trust membership and the property guidebook

  • You are important in making sure things run as smoothly and safely as possible – this includes getting to know health and safety and evacuation procedures and reporting any changes

  • Your smile and friendly persona will also be required across the property at other times this could be helping to queue bust in the restaurant or even being at other welcome points across the site.

  • There might occasionally be some other activities which we could use your help with, such as evening or external events.

  • Suitable branded clothing will be provided to help make your day more comfortable and for our supporters to easily identify you

  • We provide equipment to help you do this role well and safely

  • We’ll also cover agreed costs of your travel between home and Hardwick (40 miles return)

  • We would require the hours of 10am to 2pm and 1pm to 5pm covered over the 7 day period.With key days being Wednesday to Sunday. We would also ask that a minimum of 1 shift a week be covered; especially in the beginning to help you settle into the role.

  • Hardwick estate opens 363 days a year which includes Bank Holidays, school holidays and we also host evening events where help is needed in addition to the regular opening.

  • Must be avaiable for a recruitment day on either 25 or 26 February.
