Job description


Salary: £36,237 per annum, rising to £38,145 after one year (London) or £32,628 rising to £34,533 after one year (outside of London)
Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week) job share or substantial part-time applications welcome 
Location: London N1, with flexibility to regularly work from home/home-based, with occasional travel to the office

As senior governance and planning officer you will ensure the smooth running of NCVO’s governance cycle including planning our annual general meeting and coordinating our annual report and accounts.  You will work closely with the interim CEO, Sarah Vibert, and Chair of the board, Priya Singh, as well as other committee chairs to draft papers and agendas for NCVO’s trustee board meetings, four committees and trading board. You will also have specific responsibility for our Nominations Committee, leading the annual process of member nominations and elections, as well as nominations of non-elected trustees, supporting induction of trustees and undertaking an annual skills audit.   You will also coordinate development of the annual business plan and monitor performance against this.  As we embed our new culture, you will also have a key role in supporting the organisation to come together and connect.

This is a fantastic challenge at a time of considerable change for us.  We are looking for someone with knowledge and experience of charity governance, as well as broader knowledge of the voluntary sector.  You will work with stakeholders both inside and outside the organisation so strong interpersonal skills are essential. You will be highly organised and skilled at working autonomously to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. You will have experience in planning and project management, as well as being a strong communicator. As a newly created post, there is the opportunity to shape and develop this role.

You will be a member of the People, Governance and Culture team, working alongside team members leading on culture change, learning, and HR. Together the team will help us to transform the organisation and how we work together. You’ll be excited by change and positive about being part of a new team and culture. You’ll build strong relationships with staff at all levels, and from all backgrounds, as well as with trustees and independent members of our governance structure. Like many organisations, at present, that includes being able to build relationships with colleagues remotely. We’re changing how we work in other ways too, and you’ll bring a strong commitment and passion for equity, diversity and inclusion.
