About the role
This role will lead our new Health Organising programme, which sets out to both support existing social movement leaders who are challenging cuts and privatisation, and also identify and build the new leadership and initiatives required to translate widespread support for the NHS into popular power and decisive change.
The postholder will build a formidable network of relationships with the most high-profile and effective champions of a progressive vision for healthcare today, work with them to boost their capacity, and identify and create new projects which build the power of patients and others.
You will ideally be able to demonstrate a record of commitment to defending the NHS and have an analysis of what has created the crisis in healthcare provision and describe what a better future would look like. You will be on top of the latest developments concerning the NHS, social care, government policy and related issues and be able to adapt your plans to suit new circumstances.
We are looking for a creative, skilled and thoughtful organiser, who thrives on building the power of people to win big change. You’ll have experience of conceiving, planning and delivering exciting campaigns that empowered people. You will care deeply about making social movements stronger on this and related issues, with an approach that speaks to the experience of marginalised and oppressed people. The ability to build alliances across difference and find and activate a sense of shared interest among a variety of groups is vital for this role.
The New Economy Organisers Network (NEON) is a network of over 1,600 activists working to replace neoliberalism with an economy and politics based on social and environmental justice.
Our members come from over 900 trade unions, grassroots groups, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), faith-based campaigns, political parties and movements.
We run trainings, share skills and coordinate together on campaigns helping people to lead movements like Just Treatment (organising patients to fight for the NHS) through to working with our members to get nearly 800 media bookings across the UK’s biggest TV/Radio outlets. We’re ambitious and the team is agile, fast paced and committed to actually changing things. After a successful year, we’re growing the team to meet the needs of our members and our three year organisational strategy.
