Job description

Media Officer / PR Officer

London or Newark

Full Time - 35 hours per week

£25,000 per annum (plus £3,000 London Allowance)

Our client believes that everyone deserves to live in a healthy, wildlife-rich natural world and that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy of wildlife in their daily lives.

They are a grassroots movement of 46 charities, 850,000 members, 43,000 volunteers and 2,800 staff across the UK dedicated to their vision and driven by their beliefs.  They have an unmatched presence on the ground inspiring millions of people about wildlife every year and caring for nearly 100,000 hectares of land. Being part of This movement enables you to make a real difference and they look for people who share their values.

About the role:

They are seeking a Media Officer to join their Communications Team. The main purpose of this role is to promote the Trusts and their activities and messages to UK audiences through the media with a view to influencing key stakeholders, public opinion and action for wildlife. Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Delivery of high-profile, high-impact media activity, working to build the role as a powerful communicator

  • Maintaining an overview of stories and policy initiatives from across the movement

  • Managing press enquiries

  • Actively selling stories to the national media, drafting and distributing press releases, media comments, features and letters to editors.

  • Generating ideas, writing and editing engaging content for online, print, digital and social media channels

What they are looking for:

  • Experience of generating news stories

  • Experience of public relations

  • Experience of crisis management and managing sensitive issues

  • Experience of copywriting, editing, sub-editing and proofreading

  • Ability to spot a good story

  • Knowledge of how print, broadcast and online media like to work

  • Knowledge of environmental issues especially nature conservation

Our client values courage, respect, integrity, trust and responsibility.  Whilst they are passionate in promoting their aims, they are not judgemental, and are inclusive.  Their society is divided, and the Trusts want to reduce, not increase, that division. They are aware that whilst their beneficiaries are reflective of their communities, their staff and trustees are less so. Therefore, they are committed to addressing this.

The trusts is an equal opportunities employer and positively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.
