Title:                                      Programme Diversity & Inclusion Lead (Team Manager)

Salary:                                  £28k-32k dependent on experience

Reporting line:                  Deputy Head of the Academy Ambassadors Programme  

Location:                              This is a full time, permanent role. As a result of changes made during the pandemic, all roles are currently based from home (subject to ongoing organisational review).

Background:

The Academy Ambassadors Programme (AAP) is a not-for-profit programme, funded by the Department for Education. It matches senior leaders from the corporate sector, as well as senior education sector leaders, with academy trusts seeking board members. These individuals bring high-calibre expertise in a variety of areas, including finance, legal, risk, HR, estates and audit, as well as independent challenge, scrutiny and accountability to the boards of trusts – some of which are small, single-school entities while others can comprise dozens of schools, and operate with large publically-funded budgets. Since 2013, the programme has helped to source and place over 2,000 senior leaders in governance roles across all parts of England.

 

The programme helps inspirational educationalists and talented business leaders work together to provide provide a better future for the next generation. It is committed to helping to improve the diversity and makeup of academy trust boards to not only more appropriately represent the communities they serve, but also to provide better balance of perspective and lived experience.

 

AAP is delivered by New Schools Network, a charity that is passionate about improving the quality of education in England. NSN was established in 2009. Role summary  

The Programme Diversity & Inclusion Lead (Team Manager) is a new role. The role is responsible for ensuring the programme meets its targets in increasing the diversity of applicants to the programme and ensuring that all recruitment and screening practices are inclusive, ultimately impacting on improved board diversity across academy trusts, especially those identified as ‘high need’ trusts, in England.

 

You will also have line management responsibility of two Recruiters and be accountable for regional delivery targets across your team (both within the DfE-funded services and NSN’s Premium paid-for services to trusts).

 

Key Responsibilities

The role-holder will be responsible for

 

  • managing the Academy Ambassadors Programme (AAP) team of recruiters to support academy trusts to recruit trustees/non-executive directors (NEDs) to their boards;
  • devising and leading on delivery of a focused D&I strategic plan, integrating actions to existing practises, championing D&I in all areas of programme activity and ensuring AAP is consistently and appropriately working to ensure fair and equitable access to governance roles;
  • ensuring Ambassadors appointed through AAP are successfully onboarded and supported during their induction and beyond;  
  • delivering their own portfolio of key regional recruitment activity;
  • operating as a key point of contact for trusts seeking paid-for ‘premium’ recruitment support, managing client accounts and coordinating with the wider team to ensure delivery of an excellent service;
  • line managing two members of staff: Recruiter and Junior Recruiter, including training and CPD opportunities, workload monitoring and performance management in contribution towards NSN and AAP objectives.

Expertise or experience in any of the following will be an advantage:

  • Experience working in a relevant role or organisation/s;
  • Experience of working in a recruitment or customer service role, in a coaching / line management / team leader capacity;
  • Experience of leading, or contributing towards, a successful D&I strategy within a non-profit sector organisation;
  • Experience in proactively leading, maintaining and enhancing relationships with external stakeholders of all levels.

 

 

Salary

£28,000-£32,000 dependent on experience.
