About Newcastle Theatre Royal

The Newcastle Theatre Royal Trust is a registered charity, home to the finest drama, the brightest West End musicals, the cream of the comedy circuit, award winning ballet and dance, and the best Pantomime in the country! We are one of the largest and most successful theatres in the UK and in a normal year, we present 400 performances to 400,000 people.

Like many arts and cultural organisations, the past year has seen us having to pause our creative output and temporarily close our doors to the public. However, our planned reopening in July 2021 presents new opportunities for us to reinstate our ambitious and exciting programme, continuing our role as the leading theatre in the North East.

We have ambitions to grow our community and education facilities and programmes, and increase access and participation for under-represented and diverse groups, and these will form the core focus of our future fundraising activities.

About the role

The Head of Fundraising is a brand-new role. Building on the existing success of our charity and brand, it is a broad post, working across the Newcastle Theatre Royal Trust and tasked with setting up a new fundraising function. This will involve building income from a range of different donors including trusts & foundations, local corporate as well as major donors. We are particularly keen to develop our audience loyalty and increase membership, giving and legacy income to fund our charitable activities,; we are working with international consultancy TRG Arts on this loyalty programme and the Head of Fundraising will be integral to the development of this programme of work.

Could it be you?

We have a strong base of commercial income and a loyal network of individual members as well as regular theatre goers but we have undertaken relatively little fundraising in the past ten years. We are looking for someone who can nurture and develop this base of support and develop trust, major gift and corporate fundraising strategies in order to diversify and grow our income.

You will need to be able to substantially develop our fundraising income generation, implementing a strategy to overcome the challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic in the short term and reach our ambitious goals for growth in the long term.

You will need to be a confident team player with exceptional communication, line management, relationship management and workload management skills. You will need to have experience in managing budgets, contributing to organisational strategy and with an outstanding track record in delivering ambitious income targets.  You will be able to advocate for the charity externally and bring the internal teams with you in terms of fundraising strategy and operationally delivery.
