Job title: Senior Policy Adviser
Location: London with occasional travel to Leeds
Role: Fixed Term Contract to 4th June 2021, Part-time, 3 days per week

The NHS Confederation is the independent voice of NHS leadership. Our aim is an empowered healthy population supported by world class health and care services. Our 500+ members span the full range of organisations that provide and commission services including acute, community, mental health and ambulance service trusts; independent providers; clinical commissioning groups; and academic health science networks. We work across England, Wales and Northern Ireland and have a European Office focused on Brexit and international learning opportunities. We support our members to address the policy and strategic challenges facing the health and care system, influence the development of national policy and represent their views at the highest levels and in the public arena. In the last few months we have been working with members to ensure that there has been sufficient Government support to manage Covid-19 and we are now working on how we restore health and care services  more widely as part of our #NHSReset campaign.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Excellent knowledge of contemporary health policy, service delivery challenges and the wider NHS.
  • A successful track record of delivering insightful and influential thought leadership and influencing through policy products and engagement activities
  • Ability to write accessible and compelling policy narratives
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills that cut through complexity and provide insight
  • Proven ability to build strong personal relationships and effective formal and informal networks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including being personally credible and influential with senior stakeholders
  • Ability to effectively manage a mixed portfolio of policy work, including scoping, ensuring it is relevant, timely and of a high quality

The Role

At this time of profound change our members need support to address the policy and strategic challenges of the evolving health and care policy landscape and a strong voice that materially shapes and influences the direction of travel so that the needs of patients and local populations are met in the best way possible. 

We have an opportunity for an exceptional policy professional who can work closely with our members to understand their views and needs and shape a programme of policy and advocacy work to meet them. You will be used to working at national level, with members and stakeholders to gather intelligence, develop policy positions, reports and briefings. Also, in acting as an expert in your field, representing the organisation’s and members’ views. You will be used to working effectively as part of a team of policy experts but also flexibly across organisational teams.
