NSPCC Schools Service 

Area Co-ordinator, Norfolk and Suffolk

Home Working

Fixed Term to end March 2021.

The NSPCC Schools Service was established in 2011 and is part of NSPCC National Services. The service forms an integral part of the NSPCC mission to protect children from all forms of abuse across the UK.

Our Speak out. Stay safe. programme was launched in April 2016 and we aim to reach over 1 million children aged 5-11 in 8,000 primary schools across the UK each year. We aim to visit every primary school every three years, delivering our Speak out Stay safe assemblies and workshops, building understanding and awareness with children so they have the confidence to speak out to stay safe. Specifically, we’re doing this by recruiting, training and developing volunteers to deliver Buddy's Speak out. Stay safe. assemblies to Primary Key Stage 1 and 2 followed by classroom workshops to all children aged 9-11. We also want to make sure communities and schools feel more confident in knowing how to keep children safe and are aware of the range of NSPCC's services/resources that are available to them.

As an Area Co-ordinator you will be responsible for:

  • Growing, developing and retaining an effective team of Schools Service volunteers in your area.
     
  • You will develop new and existing relationships with key stakeholders to support them in helping us achieve our aim to reach every primary school in Norfolk and Suffolk, while keeping abreast of current safeguarding practices.
     
  • You will manage your team's bookings (of assemblies and workshops) in line with monthly targets, reaching the maximum number of children as possible while committing to 100% of bookings through effective resource scheduling.
     
  • You will ensure all volunteers are well supported throughout their school visit from beginning-to-end, through day-to-day support and regular coaching or supervision.
     
  • You will follow practice guidelines to resolve any child welfare or child protection issues, meeting service level agreements and in full compliance with policies.
     
  • Identifying opportunities for schools to support NSPCC through income generation will be another priority.
     
  • You will also manage a Schools Organiser, ensuring they deliver high quality Speak out. Stay safe. assemblies and Buddy's sponsored income events while meeting or exceeding their delivery and income targets. 

Reporting to the Schools Service Manager, the successful candidate will have an excellent track record of volunteer (and staff) management and motivation, a good practical knowledge of children’s development and child protection, experience of planning and delivering training programmes, and meeting financial and service delivery targets in a highly pressured role. You will be someone with well-developed skills in building relationships and networks with key safeguarding leads and the local community. Organisation will be a key strength to effectively run a team and sustain high visibility in the community, meeting tight deadlines and timely completion of reporting.

The Service is currently growing its reach to schools, income generation and its volunteer base at a demanding pace, therefore the post-holder will need high levels of commitment, flexibility and a positive approach to deliver results.

This is a fixed term (to end March 2021), home based position requiring extensive travel throughout the area. Access to and daily use of your own car is essential.
