Job description

Campaigns Manager (Liberation)

Politics and power is changing. And so are we.

We’re looking for an experienced campaigner with a track record of winning and innovating. Working with elected student leaders, you’ll play a key role in the reinvention of NUS’ campaigning practice.

You’ll have the skill and drive to develop campaigns that have a wide and influential reach. You’ll be able to develop engaging digital and press content. You’ll have the experience to build the movement by organizing students on the ground. And you’ll be able to identify the problems and the transformational solutions that we’re fighting for.

What’s the job?

This is a role managing NUS’ campaigning, press, communications and influencing across our liberation work. Liberation in NUS is focused on ending the oppression of Black students, LGBT+ students, trans students, disabled students and women.

You’ll be working with partners across education, liberation and beyond. Our priorities are set by students via our democracy. Often we’ll be a decade ahead of the curve on liberation matters so prepare to push the envelope on concepts that are often new and challenging.

Why Apply?

In return for your passion and experience we offer the flexibility for work-life balance, a competitive salary for the non-profit sector and excellent holidays and benefits.

Location: This role is available primarily at our headquarters in Macclesfield. We’ll also consider applicants wishing to work out of our other offices in Edinburgh or Cardiff as well as home workers.

Salary: £34,949 to £38,692

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent, 35 hours a week.

We’re committed to equality of opportunity for all. We welcome applications from individuals regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, age, gender, or disability. You can be yourself here whoever you are, be proud of the work you do and build a career in a place that knows different is good.

We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates, as they are under-represented within NUS currently.

Who are we?

NUS is a confederation of 600 students’ unions representing over 7m students and apprentices across Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales. In Wales, there are 20 students’ unions representing more than 300,000 students, learners and apprentices. We’re 98 years old and are looking forward to celebrating our centenary having successfully established ourselves at the cutting edge of social change. The student movement is fast-paced and sometimes challenging, but we’re also a big family who support each other.

We see anti-oppression as central to our mission. Education isn’t working unless it’s working for everyone in our society. We’re trans inclusive without exception. And we welcome individuals who are up for taking active responsibility for their own ongoing learning on liberation, equity, diversity and inclusion.

Closing date for applications is 13th April 2020

You may have experience of the following: Campaign Manager, Campaigns Manager, Policy Manager, Communications Manager, Brand and Influence Manager, Political Aide, political Assistant, Third Sector, Trade Union, Charity, NFP, Not for Profit etc.
