Job Description

Here at Oaks, we help socially-minded organisations raise their game.

Formed back in 2008 – with roots in the business of sport – our journey has seen us work with organisations of all shapes and sizes right across the sport, voluntary and education sectors: empowering socially-minded organisations to expand their work, support more vulnerable people, and ultimately change lives across the UK.

These organisations include sport-for-development focussed charities such as Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, the Dallaglio Foundation and London Youth Rowing; leading education providers such as the Challenger Trust and ASDAN; and Premier League level club community organisations including Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, West Ham United Foundation and Cardiff City FC Foundation. Our work with these award-winning organisations has received its own plaudits too – with Oaks shortlisted as provider of the year at the Football Business Awards and Sports Business Awards in the last twelve months.

We help these organisations to raise their game by supporting with critical functions such as business planning, organisational development and income generation. Primarily focussed on grants from trusts, foundations and lottery sources, our market-leading fundraising team specialises in securing income that underpins organisational growth and facilitates the creation of community interventions that address key social issues - with successful bids ranging from small scale awards of £1,000 up to large investments of £2 million+.

The Opportunity

Building on this success, we are now offering another fantastic opportunity for an experienced and talented fundraiser to join our growing fundraising team – supporting our trusts and foundations work with several high-profile clients. Successful candidates will focus primarily on helping to secure income for our diverse clients – writing compelling funding applications to a variety of trusts, foundations and other relevant grant funders for several different charities, reviewing applications written by others, and training new members of the team in the art of bid-writing.

It’s a unique opportunity to hone your business-development skills in a variety of not-for-profit contexts – working with schools and academy trusts, national governing bodies, sport-related charities and regional and international development organisations to secure their long-term futures and deliver genuine social impact. The role will also support our work in other income generation areas too, including corporate partnerships, community fundraising, and high-net worth individuals.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing hands-on fundraising advice and support to a number of organisations in the education, sport and not-for-profit sectors
  • Identifying new opportunities in the trusts and foundations landscape that are suitable for our clients and their award-winning community activities
  • Developing high-quality, creative and ultimately successful bids to trusts and foundations for each of our clients – managing the whole application process from design to award
  • Managing successful relationships with our clients that deliver exceptional client satisfaction levels and provide a significant return on their investment in Oaks
  • Training and developing individuals within our team to be able to provide high-quality consultancy support

Core Skills and Experiences

We are looking for individuals who would be a natural addition to our energetic, purpose-driven team: a people person, with a love of building relationships, a passion for business development, and an independent and innovative thinker.

We are looking for:

  • Excellent written skills, with experience of putting together compelling and persuasive proposals
  • A tangible track record in securing new income for a not-for-profit organisation
  • Confidence in developing relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Experience in education, sport or the wider not-for-profit sector

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with experience of forming and maintaining high-level relationships with a range of individuals in senior business positions
  • Experience in developing and implementing fundraising strategies, plans and budgets
