Job Description

Young Harrow Foundation (YHF) is a new charity that has been set up to work with inspirational organisations providing services focused on young people in the London Borough of Harrow. With initial funding for the next 3 years from John Lyon Charity and City Bridge Trust, we will be providing fundraising support to help these organisations source and secure funding for new and existing pieces of work, enabling them to deliver the most effective provision possible.

We are looking for someone with a passion to be part of an organisation making a real difference to the lives of young people.  The successful candidate will have a friendly, welcoming disposition and excellent people skills, as they will be working with other organisations on a regular basis; they will have the ability to think strategically and outside of the box; their written communication will be of a very high standard; they will be organised with the ability to juggle multiple demands and work under pressure.

Main areas of responsibilities will include:

  • Develop our PR strategy and processes and our relationships with member organisations and other local stakeholders., including our website, press and publicity material
  • Be a voice for and represent member organisations in local structures, forums and networks.
  • Point of contact for enquiries and high level communications between YHF and local organisations
  • Development of strategies and processes for  delivery of  YHF work and  programmes
  • Involvement (with the CEO) in the delivery of our small grants programme to deliver innovative support funded by YHF
  • Provide reports as required to Board of trustees
  • Developing, updating and maintaining the organisation’s policies
  • Supporting the CEO to manage funder relationships and providing accurate information including quarterly, annual and end of project monitoring reports

Fundraising responsibilities

  • To establish and maintain a comprehensive rolling timetable of planned applications to funders (Main area of responsibility to collate all information, develop research and complete a strong application first draft)
  • To report to Board and CEO on progress of making high quality applications to Trusts and Foundations
  • Supporting the CEO to manage funder relationships and providing accurate information including quarterly, annual and end of project monitoring reports

Person Specification:

Operations and Communications Lead



  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills
  • A high standard of written skills
  • IT literate - strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook is required
  • Effective time management skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to make reasoned decisions
  • Ability to plan and priorities workload within a context of multiple demands
  • Ability to relate to and work with professionals in a variety of contexts
  • Experience and evidence of successful fundraising from Trusts and Foundations
  • Experience in researching needs based evidence for funding bids


  • An understanding of youth work and provision for young people
  • Experience of working in a youth focused charity
  • A good understanding of the voluntary sector
  • Fundraising experience


  • A confident and articulate individual, able to communicate effectively with colleagues, professionals and members of the wider community
  • Someone who naturally pays attention to detail as well as the bigger picture
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and under own initiative

Conditions of Employment

  • On rare occasions, activity may be required out of hours in relation to specific campaigns/events. Time off in Lieu will be given.
  • 25 days’ holiday per annum (plus public holidays).
