Litter-picking brings people closer together, enables neighbours to meet one another other and helps create a greater sense of pride and community in local areas.

Historically, we have delivered litter-picking focussed community engagement projects in London and Birmingham. Our current focus is developing partnerships with community organisations across England to expand our reach and increase impact.

Main duties of the role 

• To provide a pro-active, high-quality administration and support service to the Operational Team, Chief Executive and the Corporate Partnerships team. 

Operational Team: Deals with logistics, processes and day to day functions of our work on the ground with community partners and volunteers. 

• To attend weekly team meetings 

• To assist in research into new areas of operation for the charity. 

• To oversee orders of equipment and printed resources to our partners with various suppliers around the country.

• To maintain meticulous records regarding our growing national Cleanup Hub network of community partners. 

• To collate statistics and create regular reports of programme activity, using our website and new database. 

• To provide help and advice to enquiries that come through our information email inbox. This could include; helping people access their profiles on our website or advising them as to how to get involved in community litter picking activity.

• To use Mail Chimp to send mailers to our partners and followers. 

• Database Management, to take a pro-active role in our upcoming database development project, considering how best to structure, store and export data. Following the launch of the database lead on database development and maintenance, such as an annual data cleanse.

• To assist with setting up, maintaining and updating database information, Community Cleanup Hub registrations, profiles and filing systems, ensuring that data handling complies with GDPR requirements. 

• To assist with staff recruitment and induction processes.

• To organise board meetings; booking diary dates, venues, catering and taking minutes.

About the Role

About FareShare Go

FareShare and the Irish social enterprise FoodCloud have been working together since 2016 in a partnership designed to help UK retailers address the issue of edible surplus food they may have within their stores. This innovative partnership, known as FareShare Go, brings together a technology platform and FareShare’s knowledge of the UK charity food redistribution market. Using this App we are connecting charities with edible surplus foods. Initially this scheme has been working with Tesco, with a view to roll this service out to all retailers across the UK & Ireland in the longer term. Since launching the scheme last year we have already connected over 7,500 charities with over 2,700 stores.

The role

As Community Coordinator, your role will focus on the growth and sustainability of the FareShare Go programme, through maximising relationships and adding value to create the best experience for our charity community. The successful candidate will be an exceptional communicator, with an approachable nature who will play a vital role in developing and maintaining charity and retailer relationships, plus raising awareness of FareShare Go across your local area. 

Main areas of responsibility

• Charity account management: You will carry out virtual calls and in person visits with new and existing charities, and be responsible for ensuring that coverage KPIs are reached and maintained for both new and existing retailers. Using your analysis of charity needs, plus your knowledge of retailer and store profiles, you will use these visits to maximise the offer to charities, ensuring the service meets their requirements. 
• Community Capacity Building: As part of the Building of relationships with charities, you will seek opportunities to enable and empower charities to increase their capacity and ability to take more food, to ultimately increase the redistribution of surplus food to those in need. 
• Sustainability and Compliance: You will work with your Regional Manager and team to identify stores where re-engagement activities are needed to improve charity coverage and charity compliance. You will work to maximise the amount of food collected by charities with lower levels of compliance. You will also be responsible for undertaking food safety reviews with charities to ensure compliance. 
• Retailer Engagement: You will play a key role in maintaining strong retailer relationships across your region. You will take an active role in any meet and greets with retailers, where required. Plus, you will be responsible for maintaining regular contact with the relevant retail stakeholders in your region, sensitively dealing with any issues in a professional manner, as and when they arise. 
• FareShare Network Engagement: We aim to become 'oneFareShare’. These roles are an integral part of our FareShare network and you will partner closely with the Regional Centre(s) in your areas. A medium sized health education charity is seeking a Finance Officer on a full-time, permanent basis.

The organisation is an established charity that provides information and guidance on various aspects of veganism. Services range from general advice on vegan lifestyle – diet, travel, shopping etc, campaigning activities, additional services to charity members, and the certification and labelling of products based on their internationally recognised Vegan Trademark.

The organisation has around 65 staff with a turnover of around £4 million annually. Their central offices are in Birmingham, however this role can be taken on almost exclusively remotely – it is anticipated that there will be approximately 6 journeys per year required either to the Birmingham office or another mutually agreeable location – for staff events and meetings.

The role sits within a small finance team of 3, and will be highly varied covering most aspects of transactional finance. The starting salary is between £29,413 - £31,508, however they have regular salary reviews and growth in the role is possible. They also have an excellent benefits package including a pension scheme, employee assistance programme, 28 days leave + bank holidays, plus additional leave available as part of a sustainable transportation climate perks policy.

The ideal candidate will be AAT part-qualified with experience in a similar Finance Officer level role. Exposure to double-entry bookkeeping and an understanding of charity finance would be an advantage. Experience with Sage accounting is also useful. We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Ecologist to join our Environment and Climate action team within the S&I Directorate and is responsible for delivering the Trust’s strategy and policy on all environment and climate related sustainability issues, including environmental compliance as a minimum, improvement of our protected sites and achieving a net gain in biodiversity across our canal network.

The Ecologist will be responsible for providing professional technical input into the Trust’s strategic activities around nature recovery. This includes collecting and analysing information and data to support a long-term action plan to move more of our protected sites towards favourable condition and support projects that increase biodiversity and the abundance of protected species across the network.

The Canal & River Trust is in an ideal position, as a large landowner with blue and green corridors connecting habitats across the landscape, to carry out environmental enhancements using our local volunteer workforce to ensure that we improve habitats and support biodiversity. Planting the right trees in the right places, reconnecting old hedgerows and restoring or creating wildflower meadows and linear species-rich grasslands to provide a safe haven for wildlife and a destination for people to retreat to from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Reconnecting people with the nature on their doorstep and offering them opportunities to get involved in looking after ‘their patch’ through guided walks and talks.

Our aim is to support the work of the Trust as a whole, while conserving and enhancing the environment of the inland waterway network. Finding simple and innovative solutions/methods of work to ensure that the modern-day use of the waterways, their historical importance, the Trust’s legal obligations and strategic priorities are met through sustainable development, conservation and enhancement of the natural environment.

Location

The role will be based working from home, with the expectation to attend main regional hubs either at Milton Keynes, Birmingham, or Little Venice (Paddington), for collaborative working. This is a national role, requiring collaboration with teams in all six of the Trust’s regions. There will be an expectation that the successful candidate will be able travel to attend meetings or fieldwork throughout the regional waterway network.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

Key accountabilities:

• Provide ecological technical advice as requested. This includes input into Trust EMS standards and tools and nature recovery projects.
• Contribute to the Trust’s Nature Recovery Strategy and associated sustainability initiatives, with a view to increasing biodiversity across the Trust’s network
• Contribute to national programmes of engagement with customers, volunteers, stakeholders and the general public to promote the value of waterways and the work of the Trust to increase the Trust’s reputation and influence and secure additional resources for our work, focusing on our key sustainability priorities.
• Work with regional ecology teams to implement relevant inspection/monitoring and maintenance programmes for environmental/soft estate assets within their geographical remit, (re-)prioritising work to suit available resources and within delegated authority levels.
• Contribute to the implementation of an environmental management system (EMS; including associated processes & standards) especially with responsibility for monitoring national uptake
• Collaboration with regional teams to maintain ecology and nature recovery performance data (e.g. GIS layers, ecological baseline and species location data)

• Contribute to corporate targets on raising public awareness of and support for the Trust especially through interest in our environmental assets.

Key Accountabilities:

• Develop, implement and maintain the Trust’s nature recovery strategy
• Develop and own a national action plan to improve the condition of the Trust’s protected sites to meet the requirements set out in the Environmental Improvement Plan 2023.
• Develop, deliver, and report on a programme of projects and activities enabling the Trust to demonstrate its biodiversity commitments as a 28G authority and that it is delivering an overall net gain in biodiversity across the network. This includes working closely with teams delivering mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain.

• Ownership of Trust standards relating to protected sites and biodiversity; working with internal technical experts and the Trust’s legal team to ensure that all Trust standards relating to protected sites and biodiversity meet regulatory requirements.
• Working with the Trust’s operational and delivery teams to ensure that standards are delivered and align with business processes through a process of assurance checking.
• Manage external technical input where requires (e.g. from consultants)
• Assist in the investigation of environmental incidents, near misses and ensure the production and dissemination of key learnings
• Producing progress reports (quarterly/ annually/ as necessary) for Defra and the wider public as well as input into our annual accounts and ESG reports
• Producing case studies and other examples of best practice for internal and external audiences
• Developing and delivering biodiversity and nature recovery training
• Displaying the Trust values and behaviours at all times.
• Ensuring that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of Trust life and promoting inclusion by challenging behaviour, practices, actions, or decisions that are counter to the objectives of the Trust’s policies and values.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

• Full Member CIEEM (MCIEEM) qualification or equivalent
• Broad understanding of key policy drivers for improving biodiversity in UK organisations, e.g Environmental Improvement Plan 2023, TNFD etc.
• Demonstrable experience of developing and implementing opportunities to improve nature within an organisation with multiple objectives and environmental aspects.
• Practical understanding of the UK regulatory frameworks for biodiversity, habitats, and protected species
• Working knowledge of the key metrics tools for Biodiversity Net Gain (Defra Metric 4.0, UK Habitats and MoRPH) and how these can be used to demonstrate improvements in biodiversity.
• Experience with working with protected sites and the new Natural England framework for categorising and managing pressures, mechanism and actions
• Experience with working with climate change datasets (e.g. UKCP18) to develop adaptation plans for biodiversity under future climate scenarios/
• Authoring company standards and guidance within an Environmental Management System
• Project/ programme management skills
• Developing business cases

Location:

The role will be home-based with an expectation to attend main regional hubs either at Milton Keynes, Birmingham or Little Venice (Paddington) for collaborative working. This is a national role, requiring collaboration with teams in all six of the Trust’s regions. There will be an expectation that the successful candidate will be able travel to attend meetings or fieldwork throughout the regional waterway network.

Keep Britain Tidy has a new opportunity for a Project Manager to manage the Chewing Gum Task Force programme. The Chewing Gum Task Force is a partnership between Defra, the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs in Northern Ireland, Scottish Government and Welsh Government and chewing gum producers including Mars Wrigley and Perfetti Van Melle which aims to clean up historic gum staining from UK high streets and change behaviour so that more people bin their gum.

The Project Manager will lead on overall administration of the scheme and manage the cleansing grant programme for councils, working alongside partner organisation Behaviour Change. In Years 1 and 2 of the scheme, participating councils have seen reductions in gum littering of up to 80% in the first two months. Now in Year 3, we will shortly distribute more than £1.2m funding to councils across the UK.

This is an exciting role within a fast-paced charity. You will have a proven track record in project management, ideally in environmental projects and/or grant schemes. Excellent organisational and record keeping skills are a must, along with the ability to form good working relationships with Chewing Gum Task Force stakeholders.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic events administrator to join our Competitions team at the Angling Trust. Your mission will be to support our gold standard domestic, national, and international competitions and events.

You’ll work closely with our Head of Competitions and Senior Competitions Administrator, handling a full range of administrative tasks for customers, members, and colleagues.

What you’ll be doing

· Supporting the planning, preparation, and delivery of our domestic, national, and international competitions and events with the goal of achieving excellence in competition delivery as well as growth in our programme and memberships

· Financial recording, monitoring, and reporting of competitions and events as well as regularly liaising with our finance team, using our iCompleat system to process purchase orders or payments / refunds, and supporting the preparation of annual competitions budgets

Our high-achieving Philanthropy Team is looking to recruit a Philanthropy Manager to help grow our donor portfolio and further increase philanthropic income for the RSPB. We are looking for an experienced major gifts fundraiser to join our friendly and hard-working team who will help us achieve our ambitious goals.

You will be responsible for cultivating a portfolio of prospects and donors through a range of engagement, to gain their financial support for programmes, projects and the wider RSPB. Working with colleagues in relevant departments, countries and regions, you will manage donor relationships and solicitation strategies to achieve the best outcome for the RSPB

What's the role about?

As a team player with a positive and diligent approach, you will:

• Look after your own portfolio of donors as well as reaching out to prospects and new donors. You will be responsible for fundraising information to advance plans and ensure prospect and donor records are accurate, incorporating any changes, new activities, updated plans, and new information as well as adding new relationships in keeping with data protection and team procedures.
• Work closely with your team and wider organisation colleagues to implement solicitation strategies, to secure financial support either by direct solicitation, preparing a written proposal, or working with senior management to make a solicitation.
• Be involved in the development of funding proposals for approved priority projects that will inspire potential donors to secure gifts.
• Contribute to the planning of and participate actively in events (face to face and online) to build relationships with donors and prospects for future income and to demonstrate the impact of gifts already received.
• Arrange meetings with individual donors at a variety of venues, including at our reserves, working closely with area and reserve colleagues to deliver an excellent experience for our supporters
• Be jointly responsible for the planning, writing, production and mailing of Philanthropy Matters, our publication aimed at philanthropic supporters.
• Build effective relationships both within the RSPB and external to it that will enhance its reputation and ultimately secure funding. This includes understanding donors’ wishes and aspirations and identifying links with approved priority projects with the aim of securing substantial gifts.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Intermediate levels of fundraising as demonstrated by work successes and recognised fundraising courses
• Experience in how to research and cultivate a prospect. And understanding of how to write a cultivation strategy
• Ability to write funding proposals and prepare briefing documents in advance of meetings and events
• Competent in the use of a CRM system (Salesforce), the Microsoft suite, other databases, research tools and methods
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
• Ability to work collaboratively with team members, and people and teams outside of our department
• Good judgement when working with donors and ability to recognise potentially sensitive areas between prospects and the RSPB to ensure reputational values are maintained
• Experience of having successfully managed and developed donor relationships leading to substantial support.
