Katherine Low Settlement is a charity that has been serving Battersea and the wider Wandsworth community since 1924. We are dedicated to building stronger communities and enable people to challenge and find ways out of poverty and isolation.

We run a range of our own community projects to tackle poverty and isolation, and empower and support children, young people and their families, older people, women and refugee communities. We campaign for social change. We also incubate and support local charities and social businesses to thrive, so together we can meet the diverse needs of the local communities of Wandsworth. Each week we work with 28+ charities supporting more than 1,000 people.

Katherine Low Settlement’s work with older people

Katherine Low Settlement has worked with older people since its conception in 1924.They are a core part of the community that we continue to work with. We provide, often in partnership, a range of projects and activities for older people including health and wellbeing; creative arts; intergenerational work; connecting people and trips/outings. Our services include an Older People's Lunch Club, Contact Club, T’ai Chi for Elders, exercise and social sessions, and support online.

We work with older people to:

• Encourage active and independent living

• Reduce isolation and loneliness

• Improve well-being and prevent ill-health

• Enable older residents to be dynamic and contributing members of the Wandsworth community.

Key Objectives for the Elders Core Service Manager Role:

1. Team Leadership: Lead a team of dedicated part-time paid staff and volunteers, including a cook, support worker, minibus driver, and sessional workers.
2. Day-to-Day Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of the Elders Core Service, including the lunch club, transport, social sessions, and overseeing the one-to-one work of the core team.
3. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the wider team to provide a hands-on program that builds on older people's strengths and potential.
4. Monitoring and Evaluation: Support the monitoring and evaluation of the project in collaboration with the Head of Programme.
5. Budget Management: Ensure the program operates within budget constraints.
6. Member Engagement: Support the planning of the core program with input from elder members and the wider team.
7. Recruitment and Support: Recruit and support new and existing members (service users).

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Delivery

• Planning and Oversight: Ensure that all service output aligns with KLS' vision, mission, values, and charitable objectives. Organize and promote one-off activities throughout the year.
• Transport Management: Manage the transport offer, including route planning and pick-up schedules.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate activity records, registers, and casework notes for the core team.
• Outreach and Support: Conduct outreach work with older people in the community, oversee home visits, and manage a small caseload.

2. Staff and Volunteer Management

• Recruitment and Line Management: Recruit and manage the Outreach and Support Workers, Lunch Club Cook, and relevant social activities workers and volunteers.
• Performance Management: Use performance management and quality systems to monitor and evaluate the project's work and processes.

3. Relationships, Communication, and Networks

• Member Engagement: Build and sustain strong relationships with elder members.
• Communication: Oversee communication for the Core Programme, including newsletters, activities calendar, annual reports, and social media platforms.
• Meetings: Attend meetings on behalf of the Core Programme as required.

4. Finance

• Budget Management: Manage project areas to budget and maintain financial records as agreed with the Head of Programme.

5. Other Duties

• Professional Development: Participate in regular management supervision and annual appraisal. Identify job-related development and training needs.
• Professional Conduct: Professionally undertake roles, maintaining a high-quality standard of work in line with KLS's aims, values, and ethos.

We are medical experts applying our skills and knowledge to make a difference in the world. We bring together the global community of medical imaging professionals to make the case for diagnostic imaging.

Since 2017, Worldwide Radiology has been steadily growing from a small group of founding UK radiologists with experience of working in limited resource settings to an international team of around 50 long-term volunteers from a range of different imaging and clinical backgrounds.

We support the development of appropriate, high quality imaging services in low and middle income countries; from central teaching hospitals to remote district clinics. Overview

The Programme Manager role will be crucial to the success and development of the charity. You will be responsible for the management and delivery of 3+ Worldwide Radiology projects, operating across Malawi, Ghana and The Gambia.

The Programme Manager will be responsible for quickly grasping the needs of three ongoing projects, steering them toward desired impact, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, and managing risks effectively to bring these projects into shape.

The successful candidate will be responsible for working with key stakeholders, including our volunteers, partners and donors to build and nurture strong working relationships. 

​

They will contribute to seeking out further grant opportunities within the sector, working closely with the rest of the programmes team and the fundraising team.

The key responsibilities of this post are as follows:

(a) oversee the smooth running of our projects; 

(b) provide strong, holistic solutions, focused on operational leadership; and 

(c) support the overall growth and development of the organisation.
 

Role-Specific Responsibilities

1. Provide overall day-to-day management for WWR projects and WWR volunteers, reporting directly to the WWR Director.

2. Oversee the development and operational execution of detailed work-plans and budgets for WWR programme

3. Track all milestones and reporting schedules, taking timely action to ensure they are met.

4. Develop and deliver project MEAL activities in collaboration with our external MEAL consultant.

5. Produce (gather, collate and edit)  high quality, timely project progress, annual and donor-specific reports.

6. Oversee the management of partnership agreements and contracts in accordance with the donor specific requirements.

7. Support the identification and securing of new grant opportunities in collaboration with the programmes and fundraising teams.

8. Communicate administrative and technical information to WWR project partners in a timely, sensitive and effective manner.

9. Assist team members, volunteers, partners and members of the public with queries, demonstrating tact and understanding when dealing with complex and serious issues, deliver a consistently high and appropriate level of service and support to individuals contacting WWR.

10. Assist with recruitment, onboarding, induction and management of both UK and international WWR volunteers.
     

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• Educated to degree level or equivalent work experience.

• Experience in grant or contract management in a humanitarian or development environment.

• Demonstrable experience of adhering to principles, methods, techniques and tools for the effective management and administration of programmes and project lifecycles.

Upbeat Communities was founded in 2005 to support refugees and asylum seekers to rebuild their lives through a whole range of support including training, social activities, befriending and hosting. Upbeat Communities became a registered charity in 2015.

In 2013, Upbeat Communities launched Derby Language School (DLS) which is a social enterprise that provides language courses to individuals and organisations in the East Midlands. Alongside generating considerable income for the charity through its private and corporate classes it also provides quality language training for many refugees through contracts with councils.

In 2021, Upbeat Clean was started in response to significant challenges that refugee women have in finding employment to support their families. Upbeat Clean’s 5-year goal is to be able to offer a Real Living Wage job to every refugee woman who needs one in Derby. Main duties and responsibilities

Strategy, Analysis & Development:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced operations manager to join our team. We are looking for someone who will help strengthen the foundations of our organisation, as well as help us expand our growing network of partner organisations across the UK. 

As a small charity, the role will require balancing practical tasks with strategic planning and management. Building on what has already been done, you will work directly with the CEO to help build the operational structure of Big Green Heart, and support its day-to-day operations. 

You will also facilitate the national deployment of Big Green Heart workshops across the UK, and will work with the CEO and trustees to implement the strategy needed to upscale the work of Big Green Heart.

Your role

As Assistant Shop Manager at Scope's Wakefield shop, you’ll work alongside the Shop Manager, and use your creativity and flair to flourish in our retail environment. Our retail roles are full of variety, and every day is different! One day you might be be generating and processing stock and designing an eye-catching window display. The next day you might be recruiting and training our wonderful volunteers. Every day there will be a different challenge that you’ll find extremely rewarding. You may also deputise and be responsible for running the shop when the shop manager is absent. A great attitude and willingness to learn are just as important as relevant experience.

Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. FareShare Midlands is the region’s largest food redistribution charity, fighting food poverty and hunger by tackling waste. We source good quality food that is surplus to requirements from the food industry. An army of volunteers help redistribute this food to over 500 frontline charities and community groups such as school breakfast clubs, community centres and organisations supporting those who are homeless, unemployed, socially isolated and recovering from addiction. These organisations provide meals and food parcels to over 67,000 vulnerable people every week.   We also support people through our Employability programmes, enabling them to learn skills and find rewarding work – some for the first time.

The Role

FareShare Midlands is a high-profile charity with stakeholders from varying sectors not least over 500 companies in the food industry and FareShare UK.  You will work towards, and achieve, a best-in-class in operation not accepting standards or a service that falls short of this.

As the senior person on site, you will be the key point of contact for operations, logistics and stock allocation for your region. This will involve working closely with staff and volunteers to ensure that all activities, including operational and order processing are completed to the agreed standard & daily timetable.

With colleagues in the Supply chain & Development functions, you will help develop new operational/logistic activity and lead on the implementation of growth of your RCs activity, capacity and output.

You will report to the Regional Warehouse Operations Manager and will be a key member of the Operations team across the Midlands region. You will identify and share good practise within and outside the Midlands, working closely with colleagues in the other regional centres.

In agreement with the Regional Warehouse Operations Manager, you will set out relevant Ops KPIs and targets and will join daily calls and weekly meetings to discuss and help resolve issues across the Midlands region, working as ‘one team’ with colleagues from other functions and regions.

Opening times:

Over the week the depot will be open for the hours required, with staff working 37.5 hours per week which may include working in evenings and weekends on a rota basis if the performance and growth of the region requires it. You will work with the Regional Operations Manager to implement the shift patterns required to provide the service to our members and communities.

Main responsibilities

Job responsibilities will prioritise but not be limited to:

1. Operations:

· Co-ordinate the work schedule and daily activities of the depot, within the guidelines of FareShare Midlands policies and procedures on food safety and Health & Safety

· Be responsible for the supervision, development, and training of all staff & volunteers

· Ensure that all shifts are efficiently planned, controlled, and resourced at least a week in advance.

· Maintain and use the in-house stock management system, with responsibility for the training of depot staff and volunteers on the database and accuracy of stock.  Maintain good relations and communications with food suppliers and community member recipient projects, responding to any complaints or service issues with pace and courtesy as set out in our Service Charter

· Ensure that the vans are maintained as roadworthy and legal (taxed and insured)

· Ensure that community food members in your region receive a service, supply and variety of food that is expected / agreed, working closely with the Development Manager to flag potential issues with supply and/or service

2. Health & Safety, Food Hygiene & Equal Opportunities:

· Be responsible for the Health & Safety and security of the operation, including warehouse, vehicles, staff, visitors, and volunteers

·  To support health and safety advisor in carrying out risk assessments

· Ensure compliance with all FareShare policies and procedures and industry standards as required by food donors and regulators, and maintain gold standard at audit level

· Ensure the service is delivered in accordance with FareShare Equal Opportunities Policy and maintain the values and culture of the FS Midlands operation.

3. Human Resources

· Lead & develop your direct reports on a day-to-day basis, ensuring that all are aware of their responsibilities and have the resources, capacity and capability to carry them out

· Be responsible for warehouse staff personal development reviews, regular 1-2-1 meetings and support as required

· Work with the Volunteer co-ordinator to recruit and train the right volunteers and other work placement trainees within the project

· Work alongside the volunteer team to ensure a complete and Up To Date rota is available – supervising volunteers should also be included on the JD

Person Specification - Skills, Qualities & Experience

Essential

· Established (minimum 3 years) warehousing knowledge including managing Staff and Rota’s.

· Depot management experience, managing stock control, payment reconciliation and putting all required warehouse processes in place.

· Stock management of perishable goods, putting processes and checks in place from goods in to goods out, creating stock count processes, managing stock rotation.

· Line management experience, including projects and associated budgets to time, to cost and to quality.

· Commercial experience; managing budgets, identifying cost savings, revenue generation and meeting KPI targets.

· Familiarity with and experience of working in CI or Lean culture including leading on review and improvement processes.

· Experience of developing and implementation of performance management systems for service delivery including monitoring and evaluation.

· Understanding of the voluntary and community sector and volunteering.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal with people at all levels building successful and productive relationships, both internally and externally.

· Facilitation, networking and group work skills and the ability to work successfully with groups of different sizes and backgrounds.

· Working within diverse communities such as urban, suburban, small towns and / or rural and with a wide variety of voluntary and community sector organisations.

· Transferable experience that demonstrates a high likelihood to fit into the management culture of a medium sized voluntary sector organisation that is underpinned by the organisation’s values.
