The Director of Operations will be a key member of our leadership team, enabling our growth through strategic and structural operational planning, implementation and delivery, ensuring that we realise our vision across our Resourcing Church network.
The successful candidate will be joining a growing church community at an exciting juncture in our history as we prepare to celebrate our 150th anniversary. Our church is thriving, with a large, diverse, and committed congregation, which reflects our community in Brixton, Camberwell and Kennington. We are a place of welcome and inclusion for LGBTQ+ people, and we are a training parish, with many ordinands, curates and musicians spending time here in recent years.
We have a thriving music programme with over 100 children singing in three choirs weekly, and we are active in our service to the community. We have two church schools, St Gabriel’s College and St John the Divine Primary School, and we are involved in a wide range of community and social action programmes from London Citizens to the Robes homeless shelter.

Are you a wise, risk savvy and servant-hearted financial leader?
Then London City Mission would like to hear from you!
London City Mission shares the gospel alongside the local church of London, equipping everyday Christians to lovingly bring a message of hope in Christ to those least likely to hear it.

The poor areas of London are incredibly diverse, in fact London is the most ethnically diverse in the world, growing at over 100,000 people a year. The world has come to London – we long to see the Gospel taken to the world by working alongside churches to visit homes and go out into the streets of London with the good news of the Gospel.

- Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week). Permanent. Let us know if you need more flexibility than this.
- Responsible for: Currently the team is 26 people, with five direct reports across finance, property and IT. Additional staff may be needed to fulfil the job description.
- Closing date: Friday 26th April 2024 at 5pm BST.
- Interview dates: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a first interview via MS Teams on either Thursday 16th or Friday 17th May. Since its creation in 1987 Education for Health has been providing education and training to Healthcare Professionals. We provide a range of Higher Education courses from Certificate to a full master’s programme along with a growing range of Essentials, Refreshers and webinars across a range of long term conditions.
During the pandemic we created a new model of delivery – an interactive blended online learning model (IBOL), enabling people to access their learning at a time and a pace that suits them. This is supplemented by live interactive webinars and recorded lectures.
This is a pivotal time for the charity; the pandemic had an adverse impact on our income as weary healthcare professionals had no time or energy to devote to training. However, it provided us with an ideal opportunity to refresh our products using state of the art authoring tools and develop a new Learning Management System (LMS). The result was an ambitious automation programme, organisational restructure and functional realignment.
We also used the time to review our market and create new products. By bringing together sales, marketing, communications and customer focus into one directorate, we believe it will create a better coherence to enable us to achieve our ambitious plans. We have started the new financial year on a good footing with a plan in place to grow income from £1.5million to £1.8million this financial year, with similar growth each year to 2025. We are confident there is considerable potential to raise the profile of the charity to maximise impact and growth by extending our customer base geographically and widening our reach through strategic partnerships, campaigns, and working with more opinion leaders.
As a member of the Executive Team, the Director of Finance and Organisational Performance will use their experience, ideas, and knowledge of finance and organisational performance to lead Education for Health’s Finance, Systems, Information, Data and People functions to fulfil our business plan, supporting healthcare professionals to improve health outcomes.

Historically, social movements conducting disruptive campaigns seem to have been crucial in driving significant political, social and economic change. Despite this, there has been little research systematically analysing the effectiveness of social movements and the strategies or tactics that most influence the success of these campaigns. Our research addresses this neglected knowledge gap and provides actionable advice to advocates and philanthropists working on a variety of important issues, with a focus on animal advocacy and climate change. We support activist groups in choosing effective campaigning strategies and tactics (e.g. via delivering training and workshops) as well as supporting funders with their philanthropic giving. Our work has been covered in respected outlets such as The Guardian, Stanford Social Innovation Review, Deutsche Welle, the New York Times, and more.

-
Lead Social Change Lab’s team, including line-managing and mentoring direct reports, developing talent, and taking ultimate responsibility for the performance, support and culture of the team.
-
Provide strategic leadership, including working with the team on strategic planning, prioritisation and evaluation of work, generating and deciding on new ideas and opportunities, and ensuring all staff are engaged in tasks that are aligned with the organisation’s goals.

-
Overseeing spending and making individual budgetary decisions when required

This role requires a diverse skill set, which would benefit from those who have some experience with social science research, leading teams or organisations (e.g. managing a team, fundraising, hiring, etc.) as well as familiarity with grassroots movements. Respect is a pioneering UK membership organisation in the domestic abuse sector. Founded in 2000, we have built our expertise over the last 23 years in what was then a fledgling sector.
Our vision is to end domestic abuse. It's a simple ask and a daunting task. We know it will take generations of hard work to get there.
