Head of Trusts and Statutory

Job Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Director of Development to implement a comprehensive trusts and statutory funding strategy to meet annual income targets and other KPIs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with a portfolio of high value trust and statutory funders, (current and prospective).
  • Develop and submit medium (£10k - £50k) and large (£50k+) trust applications to a range of different funders.
  • Support the Funding Officer to develop and grow an existing small grants programme, (sub £5k).
  • Work together with operations and finance colleagues to develop new, fully costed projects and ‘packages of support’, ensuring reporting systems are put into place for successful applications.
  • Oversee a programme of research, cultivation and stewardship of trust and statutory donors.
  • Provide comprehensive and tailored reports to all trust and statutory funders.
  • Monitor trust and statutory income against financial targets and other KPIs, providing timely and accurate reports to the Director of Development.
  • Ensure all communication with supporters and prospective donors is recorded and logged accurately on Raisers Edge
  • Contribute positively to the Development team, working collaboratively on the development of robust cases for support, sharing information and ensuring approaches are coordinated effectively.
  • Implement a performance management culture in line with OTW policies including making sure that 1:1s. performance and development reviews take place regularly and with recorded outcomes and actions.
  • Adhere to the highest standards of fundraising best practice and ensure all activities comply with the relevant data protection and other legislation.

Person Specifications

  • Educated to degree level standard or equivalent
  • Demonstrable experience in developing high quality targeted proposals for complex / high value trust and statutory donors  
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully researching and developing new relationships with trusts and statutory donors
  • A proven track record in regularly securing six figure grants and of meeting annual income targets
  • Demonstrable experience of stewarding and cultivating productive relationships with trusts and statutory donors and of managing / reporting on large and complex grants
  • Experience of line management of staff
  • Experience of working with senior level contacts both internally and externally and with a diverse range of colleagues
  • Excellent networking and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels, and be engaging and persuasive
  • Excellent written communication skills, particularly in relation to writing clear, tailored, accurate and compelling proposals, applications, reports presentations and materials to appeal to specific audiences
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to manage and take responsibility for own workload, to work independently as well as productively as part of a team
  • Highly numerate with strong budgeting skills and attention to detail
  • Strong team player with collaborative working style, who enjoys individual and team working
  • Ability to use Microsoft applications and Raisers Edge
  • Flexible, able and willing to respond to changing priorities

  • Fundraising training / qualifications (Desirable)
