Job description

About us

Pancreatic cancer is a tough one but we’re taking it on. We are supporting those affected by the disease, investing in ground-breaking research, lobbying for greater recognition of pancreatic cancer and being a voice for everyone involved in the fight. Together we are taking on pancreatic cancer.

This is an exciting time to join a fast growing charity with big ambition. We fund research into the disease, providing services for those diagnosed and their families and campaign to achieve change. We are the lowest surviving and quickest killing cancer. There is so much to be done for our disease and this message is cutting through, in no small part due to the work of the small but determined team.

The award-winning Policy and Campaigns Team at Pancreatic Cancer UK covers public affairs, policy, campaigning and maintaining the intelligence function for the organisation. We are a small team performing a critical role within the organisation and we are helping to change the unacceptable outcomes and experience of people with pancreatic cancer by lobbying for change, and providing evidence-based solutions that can be implemented across the UK.

You will be joining the team after a very busy and successful year, which saw us launch the Demand Faster Treatment campaign, which achieved the support of over 100,000 people across the UK.  You can see more about the campaign on our blog. The campaign, has also included  parliamentary and NHS influencing as well as public mobilisation and has led us to win two awards in 2019: The NICE Shared Learning Award and the Charity Times Campaigning Team of the Year for 2018.

The team

The Policy and Campaigns Team at Pancreatic Cancer UK covers public affairs, policy, campaigning and maintaining the intelligence function for the organisation. We are a small team performing a critical role within the organisation and are helping to change the unacceptable outcomes and experience of people with pancreatic cancer by lobbying for change, and providing evidence-based solutions that can be implemented across the UK.

You will be joining the team after a very busy and successful year, which saw us engaging key stakeholders across the UK with our Demand Faster Treatment campaign, which achieved the support of over 100,000 people across the UK.

The role

You will have responsibility for ensuring the profile of pancreatic cancer remains high on the agenda by planning and delivering activities to engage key policy and influencer stakeholders to make sure this happens. You will engage with people affected by the disease to ensure that our policy positions represent those directly affected by pancreatic cancer and confidently represent these positions to external audiences.

You will also lead the secretariat function for the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Pancreatic Cancer, working with parliamentarians, other charities and supporters to ensure that our cancer is not left behind. This includes planning parliamentary events and activities across four parliaments in Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in November.

About you

This high profile position requires someone with exceptional public affairs, political knowledge, stakeholder engagement, and management skills. You will also combine this confidence and interpersonal skills with sound policy knowledge in order to represent the charity confidently and persuasively. Your reward will be to see our ambitions realised and for more people with pancreatic cancer to have the chance to live longer, better lives.

Working with us

We are an inclusive employer committed to developing a diverse workforce and are looking for people who can demonstrate dedication to our cause and values. We offer a supportive place to work with helpful and friendly staff who report a high level of job satisfaction. Our open-plan office is based in London on the river with views toward Westminster. We operate a mixed system of hot-desking and static desks depending on team and charity requirements. We are always happy to discuss flexibility in light of the needs of the role.
