Your mum, son or friend. Anyone can get Parkinson’s, young or old. Every hour, two people in the UK are told they have Parkinson's – a progressive neurological condition. It causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time. Currently there is no cure.

We’re close to major breakthroughs. Funding the right research into the most promising treatments, we get closer to a cure every day.

About the role

To support the growth and delivery of our work, we know the importance of ensuring we have the right skills and experience within our senior leadership team to support the charity’s strategic development, priorities and growth.

The appointment of this role comes at an exciting time for the charity.   People who live with Parkinson’s want us to accelerate research and better care every day.   This is at the heart of our strategy and we are now supporting and developing groundbreaking new partnerships in research and services to make this happen.

As the largest charitable funder of Parkinson’s research in Europe.  Through our Virtual Biotech we have been selecting and supporting projects at the drug discovery, preclinical and early clinical development stages working with leading research organisations: clinical and academic institutions, pharmaceutical companies and biotechs worldwide.

What you'll do

This role will strengthen the financial and commercial management of the charity and deliver robust people strategies that ensure we are ‘fit for the future’.   

A key focus for this role will be: 

  • to provide leadership to the finance, HR, facilities and procurement teams to ensure high quality and professional services are delivered and that all staff across the charity receive the highest quality support and tools to deliver their work
  • the development of our virtual biotech programme and partnerships by leading on negotiations with partners and the development of framework and strategies to maximise impact and draw in new sources of funding
  • redesigning the charity’s financial structures to support and incentivise our local teams of staff and volunteers in our Vibrant Communities programme
  • the management and development of our estate strategy, working with the property subgroup and our advisers to map out how we maximise the value of our existing asset and future proof our accommodation needs

What you’ll bring

The ideal candidate will:

  • be degree educated, and either a qualified accountant or MBA
  • be a clear thinker, who can articulate complex issues to diverse audiences
  • have a strong track record of working at board level in a complex organisation
  • be accustomed to setting clear measurable objectives and outputs for the organisation, with rigorous monitoring of progress and performance
  • have the ability to analyse and challenge the effectiveness of where the charity is allocating and deploying its income
  • be able to identify areas for operational improvements and cost efficiencies
  • have experienced in structuring and negotiating commercial agreements with third parties, both in research and other areas
