Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Charity Fundraiser to join our dedicated team in Malton, North Yorkshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies to support the goals of our mental health charity. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by mental health issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote awareness of our objectives and our work to relieve suffering and distress
- Research and identify potential funding sources and grant opportunities
- Prepare grant proposals and manage grant reporting requirements
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies to meet or exceed fundraising targets
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and supporters
- Recruit and lead a team of fundraising volunteers
- Plan and execute fundraising events, campaigns, and initiatives
- Collaborate with colleagues e.g. Comms Assistant to create fundraising initiatives
- Provide excellent customer service to donors, sponsors, and supporters
- Monitor and analyse fundraising data to assess performance
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, business, public relations, or related field
- Certification, diploma, or similar qualification in fundraising
- Proven experience in fundraising (minimum of three-years), preferably within the mental health charity sector
- Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, techniques, and best practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including having confidence in public speaking, and paying good attention to detail
- Ability to lead and motivate volunteers
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- Customer service-oriented mindset
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Passion for mental health advocacy and a commitment to making a positive impact
About Community Counselling:
The charity was established in 2013. It provides free therapeutic interventions such as counselling, play and creative art therapy, and EMDR (trauma) treatment to vulnerable people living in North Yorkshire, including children who have been the victim of crime. The clinical team consists of over 30 part-time practitioners, being a mixture of staff, volunteers (including trainees) and sessional workers. Last year we helped over 800 people with a wide range of mental health issues.

The role will require some attendance at the Malton office, which benefits from excellent transport links - the office is at the station, is opposite the bus station, plus there is free onsite parking.

The Role
Building relationships with the fire and rescue services in your area, you’ll become an integral part of the local fire services community. You’ll join a nation-wide team of inspiring and innovative fundraisers, working collaboratively to secure the much-needed income for the Charity.
Helping to coordinate events, support fundraising initiatives and implement new ideas, you’ll support your people, stations, and offices to raise awareness of the Charity and achieve and exceed income targets, as well as working with local businesses and people to maximise our fundraising potential.
By generating the income, we need to realise our ambitions you will help us to be there for even more members of the fire and rescue community.
This role is subject to a Basic Disclosure and Barring Services Check.
About You
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and innovative fundraiser to join our team, full of ideas and a positive attitude.
You’ll need excellent business and project planning skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and adapt your communication style to your audience.
You’ll be responsible for maximising the potential fundraising income from every initiative you support, so you must be able to effectively engage with multiple stakeholders and build strong networks.
You’ll also be able to support and inspire our volunteers, ensuring that these vital links between our Charity and the fire and rescue services are happy and fulfilled in their roles.
Reporting to the Fundraising Manager, you’ll be an excellent communicator with exceptional organisational skills and a ‘can do’ attitude.

The role:
As an integral part of the Fundraising and Development team, you will work closely with the rest of our team to secure financial income enabling GMYN to meet its income generation targets. Key Responsibilities
- Apply to a range of trusts/grant giving bodies ensuring that applications are closely aligned to the objectives of the funder and that they meet GMYN’s aims and objectives.
- Ensure that GMYN is generating sustainable, unrestricted income/restricted income for programme delivery by securing multi-year grants in addition to one off gifts.
- Identify prospective trusts and other grant bodies whose aims and objectives are aligned with GMYN.
- Build and develop relationships with trusts with regular communication to deepen and nurture their support.
- Liaise closely with the fundraising team to ensure relevant case studies and marketing can be used to promote GMYN’s impact to stakeholders and funders.
- To take part in and contribute to strategy and planning meetings alongside other members of the business and fundraising team.
- Keep comprehensive records of all trust and grant fundraising activities and be able to report the impact to funders and stakeholders via various methods.
- Ensure the appropriate recognition of grants and gifts is made to ensure relationships are maintained.
- To carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities that contribute to the organisations overall aims and objectives.
Personal Specification:
You don't have to have worked in the voluntary youth sector previously. Our aim is to find a suitable candidate that can meet the selection criteria below. This can be from a past/current income generation/bid writer role, or a role with transferable skills.
More importantly we are looking for someone with genuine passion for working for a youth charity. Someone who can join our fundraising team and make a big impression, helping us to achieve our income generation goals.
We want to hire an enthusiastic person who can maintain positive working relationships with various supporters, delivery partners and all stakeholders.
Essential Criteria:
- Proven experience of bid writing or other similar income generation work with demonstrable transferable skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken with the ability to present confidently.
- Ability to self-manage, work independently to targets but also join up your work with the rest of the fundraising team.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and workstreams with a “can do” attitude in order to produce positive results.
- Experience and/or understanding of producing impact reports and reporting to various audiences, ideally funders.
- Motivation to work towards the charitable purpose of the organisation.
- Ability to effectively steward existing funder relationships to generate continuation funding.
- Competent in Microsoft office.
Desirable Criteria:
- Knowledge and understanding of fundraising methods and changing trends in the funding environment.
- Experience of researching trusts and grant funders to identify suitable income opportunities for both programme related and unrestricted core costs.
- Knowledge of the Voluntary and Community Sector and wider fundraising environment.
- Experience of using customer relationship management data bases.

Community Fundraiser
At CHAS, we are on a mission. We’re going to make sure wherever there is a child in Scotland with a life shortening condition their family know about the vital support we can provide. To do this we need to reach into every community across Scotland and this is where you come in! We are looking for a driven and ambitious individual to join the Community Fundraising team.
You will be responsible for getting out into the local communities of Aberdeenshire and Dundee, raising awareness and engaging your supporters in their fundraising. You will grow and develop existing relationships and support as well as creating new community fundraising activity. You will be working alongside an amazing Fundraising and Communications team covering the whole of Scotland. You will manage a fantastic group of existing CHAS volunteers and grow your volunteer networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Relationship management of existing and new community fundraising supporters and volunteers
- Create new, cost-effective, community-based fundraising activities within a specific geographic area, ensuring contacts are established and maintained
- In line with the community fundraising strategy, take the lead on a specific income stream, developing materials and fundraising activities
- Provide market-intelligence and research on the community fundraising function, enabling future planning of activities within CHAS
- Regularly present complex fundraising information to groups, including existing and potential supporters
- Delegate work to volunteers, ensuring appropriate support mechanisms are in place and that individual skills are utilised appropriately
About you
In order to successfully drive fundraising and support for CHAS in your area, you will work co-operatively with colleagues, form meaningful relationships with others, demonstrate initiative, act with integrity and be accountable for your actions and decisions. You will also have:
- Experience of growing external financial support by developing new contacts and networks
- Experience of events and/or project management and the processes involved in a delivering a successful event and/or project
- Advanced level of communication and presentation skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and related software applications
- Highly developed inter-personal skills
