The Wohl Legacy is comprised of three independent charities all founded by the late Maurice and Vivienne Wohl. We are looking for a proactive and highly capable Finance Director to join our small organisation and provide 360 degree support to the Chief Executive Officer. The organisation has gone through a period of modernisation and we are looking for someone who will continue to seek to improve and streamline processes and find more agile ways of working.
This position is responsible for the full finance function and responsibilities include:
- Overall responsibility for the development and successful delivery of the Finance function;
- Leading on financial planning, preparing annual budgets and quarterly management accounts;
- Preparing year end SORP accounts and liaising with the auditors; producing the Annual Report and Financial Statements; reporting to Finance, Audit and Risk Committee, Investment Committee and the Board of Trustees;
- Liaising with investment managers to obtain regular reports of performance and undertaking new investment movement analysis;
- Ensuring the Foundation’s policies are kept up to date and compliant;
- Communicating complex financial information and influencing and building rapport with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with experience of the UK charity or not for profit sector, advanced knowledge of SORP and charity VAT. You will have led a strategic finance function, produced statutory accounts, management accounts, financial reports and analysis. You will have demonstrable commercial acumen, a strong understanding of business and strategic issues, and the ability to appropriately challenge and advise budget holders. You will have excellent communication skills and a passion for helping us achieve our vision.

The Diocese of Winchester and the Diocese of Portsmouth are partnering exclusively with Robertson Bell to recruit a Strategic Programmes Finance Officer on a permanent, part-time basis (28 hours). The Diocese of Winchester (WDBF) and the Diocese of Portsmouth (PDBF) support the Ministry in, and the mission of, Church of England parishes in Winchester and Portsmouth and surrounding areas.
Reporting into, and working closely with, the Strategic Programme Managers of both dioceses, you will take responsibility for providing specific financial reconciliations, monitoring and reporting against the Strategic Development Fund (SDF) and Diocesan Investment Programme (DIP) funding received by the Diocese of Winchester and the Diocese of Portsmouth from the Church of England (Archbishop’s Council).
A key aspect of the role will involve financial planning and modelling for future DIP bids. SDF/DIP funding is given for projects within the dioceses that help to achieve their strategic objectives. The role also involves some historic analysis to ensure expenditure is correctly coded to the right project from previous funding.
In this Strategic Programmes Finance Officer role, you will:
- Support the Strategic Programme Managers, liaising with the Finance Team, drafting, costing, and modelling of financial information for future funding/grant bids, ensuring cost recovery for overheads and staff time is included on all projects.
- Prepare regular financial reports for the Strategic Development Team and senior leadership on the financial progress and outcomes of spend to date, ensuring transparency and accountability of the funds received for the various SDF/DIP projects.
- Ensuring any transactions for overheads or contributions to core costs are recorded accurately for costs incurred by SDF/DIP or shared by the WDBF/PDBF.
- Providing information to the Finance Team regarding projects as part of month or year-end processes.
- Support with the preparation of financial reports to Church of England on the funding spend to date at required intervals.
- Review of spend to date on Xledger vs spend expected by SDT to includes comparisons for projects, spend against budget and reconciliations moving forwards.

Job Description
The Permanent Part Time (0.6) Head of Finance is a core member of the organisation's structure and is a strategic partner to the Director of Operations on all areas of finance. Responsibilities will include:
Run the accounting functions
- Manage payment runs and other banking.
- Manage payroll, pension and staff benefits as required.
- Administer investments and banking.
- Cashflow Management.
- Finance app management inc. Xero, ApprovalMax
Management accounts and planning
- Produce management accounts.
- Analyse trends and variances, and other analysis as required.
- Model company finances including budgets and 3-year business plan.
Compliance
- Manage VAT, corporation tax, and tax planning.
- Generate and review accounting and compliance policies.
- Work with auditors throughout the year as required.
- Implement and manage spending and authorisation controls.
The Successful Applicant
- Fully Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, ICAEW etc)
- 5+ years PQE
- Can demonstrate working independently and as finance lead with board responsibilities. (Experience in a SME preferable)

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in managing a residential scheme, working with older people and knowledge of related services and benefits, with a strong understanding of housing legislation and the regulatory framework within housing. Experience of managing health and safety and any safeguarding issues and concerns within a residential scheme, is also key.

The ‘Wilder Marches’ is an iconic cultural and ecological landscape straddling the English Welsh border, broadly defined by the Radnorshire Hills and Clun & NW Herefordshire national landscape character areas. Wilder Marches is also the name of a new initiative to bring about nature’s recovery by creating and restoring habitat at scale in partnership with land managers and other agencies.
The project is currently in a development phase, with the aim of this phase is to create specific projects, to secure funding for expansion, and to begin building a team of land management, green finance advisors, and project officers. One of these workstreams is the establishment of a business model that will be sustainable in the long term. This will be the primary responsibility of the successful candidate to further develop and deliver.
Due to upcoming maternity leave, there is an opportunity to join the Wilder Marches team as Business Development Manager on a fixed term basis.
The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for developing new business models leveraging emerging green finance 2 approaches to support nature’s recover to enable long term programme sustainability and delivery.
The candidate will be expected to research and identify new business opportunities - including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, products and services. They will develop business models and plans to enable sustainable revenue for the programme. The candidate will present findings to the steering board for approval, and then provide a detailed road map to enable delivery of this. Some operational work including establishment of legal structures, development of a customer base and contract management may be required as part of the role.

Our partner is seeking an experienced internal audit professional to lead and undertake a series of UK-based as well as partner audits overseas. The expected audits are expected to cover financial controls, governance and IT system.
Requirements
- Qualified accountant with significant post qualification in internal audit, including leading the internal audit function of an international organisation not for profit organisation.
- Demonstrable experience and understanding of governance, and working with international donors.
- Experience of undertaking partner governance audits, and in special investigations.
- Excellent communication & negotiation skills, experience of working with senior management, board members and Finance & Audit Committee members.
They are seeking someone to start as soon as possible. They anticipate the contract to be initially for 6 months, with the possibility of extension or a longer-term arrangement. They are open to someone working part-time, a minimum of 3 days/week. This role is mostly home-based, with a requirement to attend meetings in the UK office, and for travel overseas to undertake partner audits in eastern and southern Africa.

Assignments would suit experienced qualified audit professionals with grant audit / management experience, ideally in a not-for-profit/ international development context
Role overview.
Complete international grant expenditure audits for a diverse range of projects (grant recipients) funded by international donor institutions ranging from emergency aid, to long term development in areas such as agriculture, health or infrastructure or technical research. Assignments are 1-3 weeks in length and based across the European mainland and the developing world. These are offered on an assignment by assignment basis, one to two months in advance.
Contractors can be based outside the UK
Requirements
- Qualified ACA / ACCA or equivalent – 5+ years post qualified experience
- Grant management and audit and reporting experience with international institutions. Preference given to individuals that have worked on UN or EC grant assurance assignments
- Diplomacy and cultural sensitivity while working with a hugely diverse range of clients and beneficiaries
- A real interest in international development and associated funding structures
- Ideally but not essential fluency in a second language such as Spanish, German, French, Arabic & Portugese
- Excellent communication, report writing and presentation skills in English.

Personal attributes:
- At least 5-10+ years of relevant audit experience
- Ability to work under pressure; Strong planning, organisational and time management skills
- Sound technical and analytical skills, report writing and presentation skills
Passionate about international travel and development and willing to work in international locations. Individual must be prepared to travel to challenging locations when it is deemed safe to do so. Individuals must also be able to demonstrate effective past working practices when working remotely with a range of clients.
