Having identified a gap in the identification of young carers and adult carers looking after someone with substance misuse issues, over the past year we have successfully piloted a project to identify and provide long-term support to these carers. We are now entering the second year of the project, and are looking for a new Family Support Worker to bring their expertise, enthuasism and ideas to the next stage of the project. 

The Family Support Worker will work across our Young Carers and Adult Carers Service to provide support to families affected by substance misuse, through whole-family assessments and reviews. The successful candidate will ensure that adult and young carers, and their families, have access to a range of emotional and practical support appropriate to their needs.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of working within the substance misuse field and an understanding of associated health and social issues. They will preferably have experience of working with both adults, children and young people. We are seeking candidates with a professional qualification in health & social care, youth or community work, and/or direct experience of delivering family focused interventions.

Carers’ Hub plays a vital role in Lambeth, supporting the many unpaid carers across the borough. Our work stems from the fact that carers often go about their roles despite the toll it might take on their own wellbeing, often having to make sacrifices that hamper their own ability to lead a normal life. 2. influencing local policy through community engagement activities,

We are currently recruiting support workers who will be able to work on a shift pattern that will include a rolling rota with a combination of days, evenings, sleep in nights and weekends including public holidays. The role can be part time or full time. Support Workers will have to be flexible re shifts. Our supported accommodation is for young people aged 16-19 who are primarily refugees and asylum seekers and in the care of the local authority.

Day shift is 9am-5.30pm. Evening/Waking hours 5pm-11pm and 8-9am. This will be paid at the hourly rate of £11.95. The sleeping-in shift 11pm- 8am, payment is a flat rate £46.00 per night.

We are currently recruiting support workers who will work on a rota in our supported accommodation for young people aged 16-19 who are primarily refugees and asylum seekers and in the care of the local authority. These young people are preparing to live independently and we offer practical and emotional support to them.

The role requires you to record support to prepare reports, for the commissioning authority using IT as required. Familiarity with Googles docs and sheets is required.

The role of the support worker is to help young people to develop their independent living skills. This can involve being out and about with the young people – going shopping, attending interviews and appointments, support to attend college, helping them to know the area and its resources and, in the home, helping them to cook, clean and develop self-care skills. The evening / night shift is focussed more on tasks that can be completed in the placements or in groups such as cooking, cleaning, support with homework, film nights, recreational activities. Some creativity is encouraged to engage and inspire the young people.

 Alongside this you will have some responsibility for light household tasks to keep the house tidy and organised as well as undertaking health and safety checks. The time in the morning will be spent ensuring that the young people who need to be up and out are ready to attend college.

Some experience of working with young people, night working and lone working will be a big advantage.

In the role of Waking Night Support Worker; individuals will ensure continues support is provided to young people at the standards of day staff with particular focus on safety of vulnerable young people.

About the Role:

Waking Night Support Worker will work in line with person centred risk assessments; support plans and liaise with Support Workers to provide comprehensive handover and partnership working. They will be observant of changes in behaviour and presentations ensuring appropriate actions are taken to document and report changes in support needs of young people. Waking Night Support Worker will be able to carry out all necessary health and safety actions including light cleaning tasks and environment management. Furthermore they will actively seek out ways to work with the team and stakeholders to improve the experience of young people in the service. The role requires individuals to work on a rota pattern including weekend and bank holiday working, as the service is open 365 days a year. Hours worked: 21:30 - 07:30.

Overall Purpose

• To provide support and care to the young people who are newly arrived in the country, providing the foundations for them to rebuild their lives with dignity, strengthen their resilience and inspire hope for their futures.
• To partner with social workers and representatives from other agencies, for the benefit of the young people.

This work is essential in enabling us to deliver our therapeutic support for all areas of a young person’s life.

Duties & Responsibilities

• To be a Support Worker for newly arrived young people who are in the care of Baca in all areas of the young person’s life, supporting them from first arrival through to their move to semi-independence.
• To welcome new arrivals into the accommodation and communicate basic information about the house, making them feel safe and able to rest; with compassion without discrimination of age, race, colour or behavioural issues.
• To enable young people to achieve the following outcomes increased physical wellbeing, increased emotional wellbeing, improved personal safety, increased social engagement and increased engagement with education, employment and training.
• To enable young people to live with positive values and good boundaries.
• To be a proactive role model for the young people, enabling them to learn day to day living skills and helping them integrate positively with the local community.
• Training young people in living skills such as washing, cleaning, cooking and safety, food shopping and budgeting; proactively and intentionally in line with the Baca independent living preparation plan.
• Helping young people settle into a routine which will include education and social activities.
• Work in close partnership with social workers and other professionals and volunteers to provide a holistic development package for each young person enabling them to become independent.
• Maintaining very good communication with relevant members of the Rebuild Team and relevant social workers through regular appropriate reporting.
• To work collaboratively with the rest of the Rebuild Team to ensure all young people are safeguarded and supported to rebuild their lives.
• Complete and update all admin work as part of the role such as month end reports and support plans on time and in a consistent manner.
• Playing an active role in developing knowledge and understanding in areas relevant to the role and especially in the areas of asylum and refugee law, trafficking, supporting separated children and the cultures of different nations relevant to Baca.

General

Baca is looking for a Support Worker who is passionate about seeing young refugees achieving their potential and rebuilding their lives for a better future. The successful applicant will have a personal style that is in line with Baca’s vision and values. They will live in the new arrival house and make it their home. They will be a good self-starter and have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire our young people to be the best they can be. 

The successful applicant will be motivated and passionate about the work that Baca does and the young people in our care. They will be very approachable, enjoy working as part of a wider team but also able to manage their own time and workload. Someone who is supportive, responsible, reliable, personable and willing to set boundaries in line with Baca’s values.

This is a frontline role that will need the successful applicant to be working closely with young people in their houses and will need access to transport young people to different appointments, meetings and activities.

An opportunity has arisen for a lead Support worker to work within our Sanctuary crisis intervention and prevention service, based in Fore Street in Enfield. We act as a short-term A&E and Emergency services alternative, providing support to individuals in the Enfield Borough aged 18+. 

This role is to provide leadership and support to the Sanctuary team on shift. The role will:

• Lead shifts during the week, providing support to team members via case management support, escalation, Health and Safety guidance
• Support the Sanctuary Manager to embed processes within the service, and ensure that these are carried out
• Work alongside the Manager and team to ensure that the service is operating to high quality standard.
• Provide support in times of emotional distress for clients. The support worker will provide a calm, supportive presence.

 The role will support clients through co-producing support plans with practical and therapeutic support offerings, as well as contributing to the development of a warm welcoming environment and ‘safe space’ to be.

This position would suit someone with a minimum of 2 years experience of working with people with mild, moderate and severe mental health issues.

The Sanctuary Service runs Monday - Friday, 5pm-10pm and at weekdays, 12-5pm. We would require the successful applicant to be able to work 4 shifts (21 hours per week) covering these days/times.

Our Enfield office is based at 275 Fore Street Enfield N9 0PD, where this post will be based.

The Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (Rape Crisis South London) is looking for a committed, professional and skilled Helpline Support worker to provide high quality emotional support, information and signposting in our Support Line team.

The 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line is a partnership between Rape Crisis England and Wales, the Rape and Sexual Abuse support Centre (RASASC - Rape Crisis South London) and two other Rape Crisis Centres (ARCH Teesside and Lincolnshire Rape Crisis). The post-holder for this role is employed by RASASC (Rape Crisis South London).

The post-holder will provide emotional support, information and signposting to survivors of any form of sexual violence, of any gender, aged 16 and upwards, and their supporters via phone calls and chats. Helpline Support Workers also provide support to colleagues and volunteers as part of their daily duties. Helpline Support workers have experience of either providing emotional support on a telephone helpline or experience providing support to survivors of sexual violence. You will also need to have good knowledge and understanding of the impact of sexual violence.
