About the role

The Henley College is proud of its outstanding financial health and Ofsted rated ‘Good’ provision. Both of these accolades have come as a result of having to manage challenging budgets and an improving curriculum.  The college, backed by its Board, is diversifying its curriculum offer in order to attract a greater number of students, respond proactively to the labour market needs in the region and improve its finances further. Recent examples of investment in college facilities and resources include their new Digital Skills & Enterprise Hub, engineering facilities and an art suite – with financial support being provided through the Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP).

Working as part of a collegiate and committed Board of Governors (the non-executive board of The Henley College) you will support the Principal & CEO and her wider team in the development of a new strategic plan for 2021 and beyond, ensuring the appropriate expenditure of funds and a continued focus on improving the quality of education and student experience, whilst acting as an ambassador and advocate for the college within your own networks.

As a full member of the Board of Governors, there is a minimum expectation that you attend the five meetings of the Board each year, whilst adding value and expertise to one of the committees of the Board.  These include Governance & Search, Quality & Standards, Finance & Resources or Audit.

Who we're looking for

Following a review of skills represented on its Board of Governors, The Henley College are looking to engage new Board Members with strategic expertise in;

  • FE vocational curriculum
  • Apprenticeships
  • Finance, audit and/or accounting

Each new Governor will bring skills and experience which support the long-term ambitions of The Henley College. The Board is strategic and enabling hence the need to for candidates to being experience of operating at a senior level, able to offer challenge, scrutiny and support to drive change and decision making.
