Holborn, Greater London
Unpaid role, expenses paid
Voluntary, C.12 engagements per year
Job description

Arts Students’ Union (Arts SU)

Approx. 11 part day engagements and 1 full day engagement per year. (Mix of in person and remote. Dates can be agreed 1 year in advance)

Arts SU is a £3.7m charity with a diverse income stream combining commercial operations, grants and fundraising. We exist to help students make friends, learn new skills, have fun and reach their full potential. We aim to help each student make the most of the life-changing experiences open to them as they study and develop their creative practice.

Every UAL student is automatically a member of one of the UK’s most innovative student unions.

We are about to set a new exciting strategy which will take us to 2026 and are seeking new Trustees to join us at this exciting time. Our Trustees will play an important role in helping us set our new plan and will help us ensure that we deliver it in a way that achieves its full potential.

Our Board would benefit from candidates with expertise in at least one of the following areas: Finance, experience operating in the arts, media and entertainment sectors, HR and EDI.

Some prior experience of operating in arts, education, charity or SUs would be helpful, but is not essential.

We are proud to have an equitable working environment. We have recently invested in anti-racism training for all staff and will be thinking about how we can make similar advancements in our ability to support disabled colleagues soon.

Arts SU is a place where everyone can grow. Confidence can sometimes hold us back from applying for a role. But we’ll let you in on a secret: there’s no such thing as a ‘perfect’ candidate.

At Arts SU we are committed to learning and development and as such will support the successful candidates to develop as effective Trustees.

We are open to first time Trustees, and our advising consultants at Peridot will be happy to speak with you about how to approach your first Trustee role.

As a diversity conscious organisation, we are especially keen to encourage applications from women and black people who are underrepresented on charity Trustee Boards.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to contribute to a creative and dynamic charity which strives to enhance the student experience, raise the reputation of our students and graduates and empower them to achieve even greater success.

Closing Date: Monday 10th January 2022
