About the role
London Metropolitan Students’ Union is a £750K turnover independent charity that works to support and empower students. London Met has good claim to be one of the most diverse, socially inclusive and transformative universities in the UK. We work in close partnership with the University to ensure that our current and future students have the best educational experience that equips them for their future lives.
We have a wide range of services and activities that we provide to support and develop our members, from our independent advice and advocacy service, through to our vibrant sports teams and student societies.
We are committed to innovating and delivering excellence in everything that we do. With this in mind, we have recently made significant changes to our operating model, taken greater control of our staffing practice and built a more sustainable financial platform to operate from. We have a new CEO who has recently joined us and have set an ambitious plan for the next three years.
Who we're looking for
This is an exciting time to join our board as we will now be seeking to enhance our services, innovate and build an SU that can give even more students transformative educational experiences.
To achieve the ambitions that we have set, we will likely need to grow our income and build some income-generating services. We have recently completed a TUPE process to bring all staffing contracts in house and, with growth on the horizon, it is likely we will grow our team further and need to enhance our people strategy and HR policy. We would therefore strongly encourage applicants with expertise of running commercial spaces, income generation or HR expertise.
We are proud that our Board is as diverse as our membership and we welcome candidates from all underrepresented backgrounds to consider this opportunity.
Circa 7/10 engagements a year, with good notice of meetings.
