Job description
PETA UK will be recruiting for a Research Associate and a Senior Research Associate.
Position Objective:
To lead projects related to animal testing in order to support PETA's efforts to replace the use of animals in experiments

Reports to:
Director, Science Department
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Independently research and interpret a variety of issues related to replacing the use of animals in experiments, focusing on animal testing required by regulatory agencies
- Develop recommendations on non-animal testing approaches through analysis of scientific data and literature
- Identify potential collaborators and partner with scientists on projects that will promote the implementation of non-animal approaches
- Lead meetings with companies and government agencies and present at scientific conferences on the implementation of non-animal approaches
- Identify opportunities to provide public comments that promote non-animal approaches, and lead the writing and presentation of these comments
- Plan and execute workshops, webinars, and other educational opportunities for scientists
- Write and analyse peer-reviewed articles and other technical papers
- Translate scientific terminology into lay terms, and respond to requests and questions from the public, donors, and journalists
- Provide input on strategic plans for the Science Department
- Answer correspondence regarding animal testing
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
- PhD in in toxicology, pharmacology, molecular biology, or a related field
- Experience working at a regulatory agency or a biotechnology, chemical, pharmaceutical, or medical device company or similar is desirable
- Proven extensive knowledge of animal testing and alternatives to animal tests
- Familiarity with OECD test guidelines and regulatory requirements is desirable
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex technical documents
- Management experience is desirable
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Proven ability to make sound, independent judgements
- Proven attention to detail, exceptional organisational skills, and ability to work well under pressure and to meet tight deadlines
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of scientists and the public
- Exceptional writing and research skills
- Exceptional public-speaking skills

- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
- Ability and willingness to travel
