Plan International UK is a global children’s charity. We work to give every child the same chance in life.
We are recruiting for an experienced Programme Development Specialist to join the Development Programmes Unit (DPU) within our International Programmes Directorate.
The DPU works with Country Offices to collaboratively design high quality programmes and to raise the funds from institutional donors needed to implement them.
As Programme Development Specialist, you will identify and proactively generate opportunities from new and existing institutional donors, and lead on the development of high-quality grant and commercial tender submissions. You will also support project initiation and handover to implementation teams once funding is secured.
Working closely with resource mobilisation teams in assigned Country Offices, the post holder will sit in the Asia, West and Central Africa programme development team to:
- Identify and proactively generate opportunities from new and existing institutional donors
- Lead on development of high-quality grant and commercial tender submissions to institutional donors, prioritising the most strategic opportunities per Country Office
- Support project initiation and handover to implementation teams once funding is secured
While each Programme Development Specialist will have assigned Country Offices that they will normally work with, there is also the need for flexibility to work with others as requested by the Senior Programme Development Manager, e.g. when there are surges of work with particular countries.
You will have experience of developing high quality proposals and/or tenders for institutional donors (particularly DFID, multilaterals and the EC) and of working remotely with multiple countries and partners to develop proposals and tenders within tight time frames. Experience of living and working in developing countries would be advantageous. We are looking for candidates with strong programme development experience but are also interested in applications from candidates with a strong technical background in one of our priority themes: Education, Child Protection, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Youth Economic Empowerment (YEE).
As you may be visiting Plan projects (when travel is allowed), a Basic DBS check will be required. This is one of a range of pre-employment checks that we carry out as part of our Safer Recruitment procedures.
For further detail of this role, please see the job profile. Please refer closely to the Person Specification section during your application, to demonstrate your suitability for the role.
