The Central Service Coordinator will ensure Gaddum delivers its organisational objectives by coordinating efficient and effective Human Resources, People and Central workstreams.

The role

The Role 

Reporting to the Policy & Public Affairs Manager, as part of the Cancer Insight Team, the Public Affairs Officer will support the development and delivery of our growing influencing work, managing relationships with national and regional decision-makers, developing and mobilising a campaign supporter base and producing annual policy campaign plans.
 

Specifically, you will: 

• Conduct and regularly review external stakeholder analyses of key decision-makers within Yorkshire, Westminster and the NHS, with a view to building and maintaining effective relationships. 

• Undertake research, actively seek to build relationships and manage a rolling contact programme for key external stakeholders. 

• Organise a wide variety of meetings and events, both in-house and externally. 

• Develop strong relationships with public affairs counterparts within the cancer charity, health inequality and Yorkshire charity spheres, with a view to sharing best practice and coordinating efforts on areas of mutual interest. 

• Monitor political announcements, developments and news at a national and regional level to inform both policy and public affairs workstreams and coordinate engagement where appropriate. 

• Maintain sound knowledge of relevant policy issues at a national and regional level. 

• Produce blogs, consultation responses, internal and external briefings, parliamentary questions, key messages and letters. 

• Coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of campaigns which support our influencing activity.

Purpose of the role

One of the core elements of this work is the production of the Freedom of Thought Report. The Report examines every country in the world for its record on upholding the rights and equality for non-religious people. We consider issues of legal discrimination and outright persecution and violence. The Report is essential to our awareness-raising efforts of the persecution faced by the non-religious.

Humanists International is embarking on a 2-year programme of work in order to realize some long-term improvements to the Freedom of Thought Report. We are looking for an enthusiastic research coordinator to join our team and participate in all stages of the publication process.

As a research coordinator you will support the Casework & Campaigns Manager to administer, plan and produce the Freedom of Thought Report, providing evidenced-based research to shape and influence human rights policy as it pertains to the non-religious.

This is a predominantly home-based role, but does require the attendance of in-person events such as the General Assembly and Team Building, as required.

Key duties

About the role 

As Senior Campaigns and Public Affairs officer, you will be responsible for the shaping Crisis’ political influencing strategies for our national campaigns.

Through our research of what works both in the UK and internationally, and our work supporting thousands of people who are homeless or at risk each year, Crisis has developed the solutions needed from Westminster Government to reverse the rising levels of homelessness and we campaign to secure the policy changes needed. With the right political will and leadership, homelessness can be ended.

This role will oversee design and delivery of creative public affairs tactics that will inspire politicians to support our campaigns. This includes overseeing our work to provide the secretariat for the APPG for Ending Homelessness, managing our monitoring and stakeholder relationships and proactively identifying local and regional influencing opportunities.

The role sits within the Campaigns Team in the Policy and Social Change directorate, but you’ll collaborate with a wide range of teams across the organisation to identify influencing opportunities, ensure our campaigns and public affairs activity have maximum reach and ensure people with lived experience are at the heart of our political influencing activity.

About you 

You will have significant experience of working with politicians in Parliament or Government and will have experience of designing and delivering political influencing strategies to secure policy change.  To be successful in this role you will have solid understanding of Parliamentary process and have worked on a range of tactics to raise the profile of issues in Parliament, with excellent political judgement and intuition.

Effective communication and ability to manage a range of internal and external stakeholders will be vital in this role in order to work collaboratively to further our campaigning objectives. You will have good ability to understand policy solutions and how best to communicate them to a range of audiences. Line management experience is desirable, but more crucially you will have experience of motivating teams or individuals to deliver results.

Understanding or knowledge of homelessness or housing policy is desirable. You may have experience in; public affairs, policy, communications and public relations.

Are you an experienced and enthusiastic Safeguarding professional with a strong interest in protecting adults at risk and children from within the wider Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Community?

Based within our Helpline Services team, you’ll have responsibility for:

• responding to concerns reported by staff and volunteers
• leading the coordination of responding to safeguarding concerns
• dealing with safeguarding issues (as they arise) and liaising with statutory services as needed
• giving advice and support to colleagues and our volunteers in relation to safeguarding and disclosure checking
• working collaboratively with colleagues across the MS Society
• liaising with external safeguarding agencies
• embedding organisational safeguarding policies, procedures and practices.

You’ll have experience of working in a safeguarding customer-facing environment within the Charity or Public Service sectors. You’ll have proficient administrative and IT skills with the ability to work accurately and consistently. You’ll ideally have had experience in supporting vulnerable people in person, over the phone and/or online. 

An understanding of safeguarding within the charity or public service sectors is essential. 

A satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check without barring list check will need to be obtained to undertake this role.

• Ensuring our policy work is built around strong evidence and is informed by, and developed with, people living with MS, their carers and health and care professionals
• Working closely with our colleagues in Campaigns, Public Affairs, Stakeholder Engagement, PR and Research to develop effective policy positions, campaigns and influencing programmes around key issues facing people living with MS. 

We have strong relationships across the sector. You’ll have the opportunity to collaborate closely with coalition partners to effectively influence external stakeholders and amplify the voices of people living with MS.
