Job description

Scope is a disability equality charity in England and Wales. Together we are Disability Gamechangers. We work to a society where all disabled people enjoy equality and fairness. We campaign tirelessly for everyday equality for disabled people.

The Benefits Specialist role is essential in supporting disabled households receive the benefits that they are entitled to. We want to see disabled people and their families have an equal standard of living to non-disabled people. In this role you will develop and deliver training sessions and provide secondary support on more complex benefit queries.

Fixed term until March 2026, 35 hours per week. 

Location: Working at Scope's Leeds office and working from home (hybrid)

In this role you will be:

  • Delivering and continually update training for energy advisers to ensure expertise in benefits advice.
  • Analysing enquiry trends to inform training development and report on service enhancements.
  • Ensuring timely, high-quality responses to benefits enquiries.
  • Tailoring information delivery to individual needs, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and accessibility.
  • Staying informed on disability-related legislation and welfare benefits to provide authoritative advice.
  • Analysing inquiries to tailor training and develop robust management information.
  • Creating accessible, informative content to meet the evolving needs of disabled individuals and their families.

About You 

  • You will have strong experience and up to date knowledge of welfare benefits to provide accurate information and support to disabled people. Demonstrated Skills in Training or education, particularly in a support or service context
  • You will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal to be able to communicate difficult and complex information. A strong ability to convey complex information in an accessible way and engage diverse audiences.
  •  Adaptability and resilience: Ability to respond positively to change while being able to work effectively with conflicting priorities.
  • You will be highly organised with the capacity to manage multiple priorities when delivering training sessions and one-to-one support. A collaborative team player, capable of working effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  •  It is essential that you have a good working knowledge of IT including Microsoft Office Products. Excellent attention to detail when using databases and proficient in data analysis for service delivery improvement.
  •  You will bring drive and enthusiasm to your role and can demonstrate that you care passionately about improving the lives of disabled people and their families.
