Communities Manager

£35,000 to £40,000 per annum, Spitalfields, London

Our expectations for our new Communities Manager are high. Reporting to our Executive Director and part of a small, friendly, and growing team. You will be responsible for supporting communities in London to develop new genuinely and permanently affordable community-led housing; the development and implementation of our approach to the residents we serve, including allocations, management, resale, and stewardship; supporting local community steering groups building relationships, supporting groups and local leaders, and coordinating the implementation of our social impact strategy.

This position also offers a real opportunity to contribute to the future direction of London CLT. Requiring an exceptional individual with a deeply held conviction for and in support of participation and grassroots-led ideas for change, a successful track record of leading or participating in successful community-led campaigns, and excellent interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to build relationships and exert influence over a diverse range of stakeholders and deliver results.

As Trust Fundraiser you will have the opportunity to support the growth of income from warm and cold Trusts. You will research trusts, create and send applications and manage relationships with existing funders including preparing donor reports and showcasing the work of Whizz Kidz.

The Team 

The Trusts and Foundations Team is part of the Fundraising, Marketing and Communications Department and is central to Whizz Kidz contributing to its ambitious goal of ensuring that every young wheelchair user in the UK is mobile, enabled and included. The six-strong team is responsible for delivering over £3m a year for the organisation’s services.

The Role

This role will be responsible for researching and applying to small Trusts and managing an existing portfolio (up to 10K) alongside supporting larger grant applications where required. You will create and maintain a prospect list, apply for relevant opportunities and effectively steward existing funders, preparing reports and updates ensuring they meet donor guidelines. Furthermore you will support the migration of our CRM from Raisers Edge to Microsoft Dynamics.

The person

You will have Trust fundraising experience with excellent research and writing skills with ability to identify new Trusts to apply to, prepare accurate and compelling donor reports and case studies and be confident in approaching donors and promoting the work of Whizz-Kidz.  You will have strong donor stewardship skills with ability to tailor approaches to the needs of the donor. You will also have strong time management skills with ability to manage and prioritise your workload and ideally experience of using a CRM for Trust Fundraising.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Behaviourist (Clinical Behaviour Services) to work on providing an internal referral service for behavioural medicine, recommending treatment protocols, monitoring patient progress, and assisting with more complex cases as required.

What does this role involve?

As Veterinary Behaviourist you’ll:

• Work with the Community Clinical Animal Behaviour and post-adoption support teams in devising the optimal behaviour rehabilitation strategy for dogs in their care while liaising with external veterinary practices as required to support the work of clinical teams.
• Support and advise staff across Dogs Trust on matters relating to psychoactive medication and links between disease, physiology and behavioural signs, under the direction of the Head of Clinical Behaviour Services.
• Provide behaviour consultations to owned dogs with behaviour problems especially those with a medical component that requires specialist input.
• Assist with staff training through workshops, clinical case reviews, mentorship and conferences.

About you:

With a good knowledge of dog behaviour, training and welfare you will have a veterinary qualification with postgraduate experience as a veterinary surgeon. With basic knowledge of statistical methods and ability to evaluate published research you will have enthusiasm for professional development, research and developing specialist skills in veterinary behavioural medicine.

About the role

This role will contribute to the achievement of the “Forest for the Future” and CAR programmes objectives by monitoring project implementation against objectives, providing comprehensive support to the L&L team, and directly supporting partner NGOs involved in the projects.

Person specifications

The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of and/or interest in forest governance and human rights, particularly in Central Africa. They should have experience and/or interest in providing project management support within a charitable organisation or in an international development context, as well as collaborating with local NGOs in developing countries. Additionally, they should have experience and/or interest in managing development project budgets, monitoring expenditure and processing payments.

Basic understanding of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL), project work plans, and logical frameworks is necessary, along with proficiency in producing high-quality financial and narrative reports.

The candidate must demonstrate the capability to manage projects in accordance with the requirements of institutional donors and contribute to strategic project development, including project design and the creation of funding proposals.
Furthermore, the successful applicant must be fluent in both written and spoken English and French.

They should also be willing to undertake travel for up to 16 weeks per year, including visits to remote forest areas.

 Under 5’s Development Worker

 This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, dedicated team based in Wakefield. 

This is a new post which has been developed following a research project commissioned by Prosper Wakefield District (was Wakefield and District Health and Community Support) in 2022 and carried out by Rocket Science, a national research organisation. The purpose was to identify where additional investment from Prosper could make the most impact in priority areas arising from their findings.

One key finding related to children, young people and families; this was followed up by a workshop where it was developed to focus on under 5’s in a specific area of the district. This role is funded for 2 years with a possible additional year, to take this forward and demonstrate what can be achieved.

Young Lives Consortium is a membership organisation supporting VCSE organisations and groups who work with children, young people and families across the Wakefield District. By working together, we achieve more, progress faster and deliver better services.  Our current services include consultancy, training, support, project management, information, guidance and best practice support, our vision is to ensure those working with Children, Young People and Families achieve their goals.

MAIN OBJECTIVES:

To establish an under 5’s network of VCSE organisations promoting capacity building, developing workforce pathways, using a child and family centred approach to respond to community need.

To work alongside an established VCSE Play organisation to support the development of a specific offer to children and families of under 5s within the Warwick neighbourhood, located in Knottingley in Wakefield District

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 1. Community Development of Activities for Children under 5.

Using the principles of the ‘First 1000’ days research to inform the project development:

· Prepare to measure and collect data, undertake research, gather key measures on which to measure improvement, evaluate and demonstrate success, identify appropriate methods and design evaluation process, identify target group and potential organisations to become involved.

· Identify and involve key stakeholders such as parents/carers, local under 5's provision, VCSE organisations, schools, health centres, and community leaders. Hold initial meetings to introduce the initiative and gather input.

· Conduct alongside VCSE organisations a comprehensive needs assessment and engagement activities to understand parents/carers' needs, challenges, and preferences for children under 5 in the community.

· Establish a steering group with representatives from all stakeholders to guide the project and develop an action plan.

2. Support for developing the Under 5’s offer

· To research and identify, appropriate existing local training, to support the project goals. 

· Develop an offer of training and workshops to the wider staff and volunteer workforce on approaches to early childhood development for VCSE staff, parents, carers, partners and community members resulting in strengthened community leadership with a strong emphasis on Safeguarding.

· Identify, document and log best practice resources already in use within the sector and identify any perceived gaps or need for activities to support need.

· Work alongside VCSE organisations and early childhood experts to identify and begin to develop developmentally appropriate activities for infants and toddlers based on the needs and assets assessment that can be delivered in a community setting.

· Identify accessible and child friendly locations for activities and resources.

· In developing groups recognise that individuals may have a range of health inequalities that may require a trauma informed approach to the work.

· Collaborate with the local authority and health services including the Integrated Care Board for supportive policies and resources.

3. Celebrate and promote the Under 5’s offer developed through this programme

· Organise community events to introduce the activities to promote the offer and champion this with the wider community.

· Provide tasters for example on sensory play, baby yoga, music and movement, and parenting workshops, focusing on child parent interaction.

· Introduce campaigns to support the programme’s aim and share information about early childhood.

· Organise an event to celebrate programme accomplishments and positive impacts.

· Appreciate parent/carer leaders, volunteers, VCSE groups, and stakeholders.

4. Inclusive Approach

• Identify and engage marginalised groups for inclusivity. Collaborate with local organisations to enhance outreach ensuring that people experiencing health inequalities can participate.
• Adapt activities to be culturally sensitive, respecting diverse backgrounds and traditions.
• Actively promote equal opportunities, celebrate diversity and challenge discriminatory practice

 5. Monitoring and recording activity, impact and evaluation

· Gather feedback from parents/carers, children, and community members about activity effectiveness. Review workforce development opportunities.

· Develop a comprehensive evaluation framework in collaboration with colleagues to demonstrate impact.

· Evaluate the impact of the capacity building programme, provide recommendations for improvement.

· Assess activity impact, identify gaps, and address barriers with the steering group.

 6. Collaboration for Sustainability

· Collaborate with businesses, educational institutions, statutory partners and healthcare providers to promote the activities and gain additional resources.

· Explore further sustainable funding models for ongoing activities.

· Facilitate mentorship opportunities for VCSE groups to respond to early years needs and the trauma-informed approach as required.

· Replicate activities in new community locations.

12. Other requirements

What you’ll be doing:

• Work with programme and Innovation teams to support the development of programme/project specific monitoring and evaluation plans, theories of change and results frameworks. This will involve building capacity of these teams, and working with other charities and organisations who are recipients of Motability Foundation's grants.
• Lead on design and implementation of evaluations that assess organisational and specific programme/project level relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability, social and economic impact.
• Develop terms of reference for various evaluations, in consultation with programmes and Innovation teams, with clear purpose, objectives and evaluation questions, approach, methodology, resource requirements and work plan.
• Design evaluation approaches and methodologies, data collection instruments and analysis frameworks.
• Lead on tender processes, where evaluations or components of them are to be outsourced, and manage delivery ensuring the work is delivered according to agreed timelines and meets user needs.
• Undertake and oversee design, collection and cleaning of data ready for analysis.
• Undertake analysis and reporting of the collected data to respond to the evaluation questions and criteria.
• Lead on writing evaluation reports, ensuring they are of high quality and suitable for target audiences.
• Present findings to internal and external audiences as required.
• Support programme and Innovation managers and teams to meaningfully report outcome and impact data.
• Facilitate learning by supporting programme and Innovation managers and teams to reflect on and learn from evaluation findings.

About you:

Must haves:

• Experience of monitoring and evaluating interventions with a focus on undertaking process evaluations, measuring outcomes and impact using a variety of methodologies and techniques.
• Experience of supporting and facilitating others to develop logical frameworks and monitoring and evaluation plans to ensure the right monitoring data is collected.
• Relevant qualification in an analytical discipline such as social sciences, economics or statistics, or evidence of professional experience in the area of evaluation.
• Highly experienced in developing evaluation terms of reference working closely with programme teams.
• Ability to lead on design, delivery and implementation of monitoring and evaluation for project and programmes.
• Familiarity with handling data protection protocols, ensuring data security and ethical considerations.
• Highly experienced in report writing.
• Exceptional written and oral skills, including the ability to present complex information in simplified form for non-technical audiences.
• Highly IT literate with extensive experience of using Microsoft Office applications.

• Manage the existing product portfolio, reviewing the existing offering in relation to market trends, client needs, the competitive landscape and the Charity's strategic goals
• Develop detailed product knowledge across the portfolio of products, leading development activity for each area alongside ongoing assessment of financial performance and product/service viability.
• Recommend and oversee product improvements, using market demand and customer and colleague feedback to identify and prioritise change.

What's the role about?

For the key strategic business partnership within the dairy sector the role will visit farmer-suppliers and provide in-person habitat advice, and speak with farmers remotely (via Teams / Zoom) to understand their farming operation and provide habitat advice.

You will use this insight and experience to help inform the marketing tools and advisory programme for broader supply chain (other farms) within the partnership.

For other Fair to Nature farmers, and businesses directly linked to them, you will prepare for and complete advisory visits and follow up with applicant Fair to Nature farmers and share the benefits of Fair to Nature certification. You will advise them on how to comply with the FtN Standard and help them complete their Farm Plan.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Knowledge of land management practices that deliver nature and wider environment benefits on farmland.
• Understanding of the ecology of main farmland taxa, particularly those of conservation concern.
• Understanding of agricultural systems and how conservation management may impact on farming practice.
• Able to communicate effectively with farmers and advise them on land management for nature.
• Ability to be self-motivated and work efficiently within a defined work plan. This necessitates the ability to plan and organise their own work.
• Competent IT user (e.g. MS packages, Outlook etc).
• An ability to produce clear written communications.
• Proven time management and organisational skills to meet project deadlines.
• Experience of working with farmers.

Barbara Ansell National Network for Adolescent Rheumatology (BANNAR) started in 2013 and has been nested within Versus Arthritis since 2020. BANNAR are a group of professionals from medical, nursing, allied health and third sector backgrounds working in adolescent and young adult (AYA) rheumatology. The network aims to promote best practice and develop research in this area by working with professionals and supporting the National Youth Advisory Panel, Your Rheum.

At Versus Arthritis our mission is to ensure everyone with arthritis has access to the treatments and support they need to live the life they choose with a real hope of a cure in the future. In our new strategy, the impact of arthritis across the life course is identified as a cross cutting theme and this role will help deliver our mission for adolescents and young people.

You will be passionate about improving outcomes for young people with long term conditions, be skilled at working with a range of stakeholders and have strong administration skills. You will work closely with the BANNAR leadership team and BANNAR members but the role will sit in the Health Development team at Versus Arthritis. You will also work closely with our Research and Young People and Families Service teams.

About the role

The BANNAR Project Support Officer will support the BANNAR Leadership team and BANNAR members to maintain a valuable professional network. You will do this by producing a programme of communications and events tailored to the network’s needs and promoting the network to new members via effective networking. You will play a key role in maximising the impact of BANNAR’s work in adolescent and young adult rheumatology by supporting Your Rheum activities, monitoring and reporting the achievements of the network, and supporting joint working with teams across Versus Arthritis and beyond.
