Prospectus is delighted to be working with the Big Issue Invest (BII) to support the recruitment of their new Assistant Management Accountant. Big Issue Invest is the social investment arm of The Big Issue. BII helps prevent poverty and creates opportunities for communities by providing finance, from unsecured loans to equity investment, to sustainable social enterprises, charities and ventures.
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Assistant Management Accountant will deliver the finance function for Big Issue Invest, and manage accounting for the loans they provide to create social impact. Not only does the Assistant Management Accountant deliver the nuts and bolts of the function, the role is critical in supporting BII's work to build a world that works for everyone.
The post holder will be responsible for assisting with the preparation of month end, balance sheet reconciliations, cash flow management, preparing the management accounts, and preparing board papers. The successful candidate will download bank accounts weekly, prepare the loan asset journal monthly, and prepare the VAT returns quarterly.
The ideal candidate will be a professional with a clear understanding of financial accounting principles, and experience of preparing cash flows and using banking systems. Ideally ACCA or CIMA part qualified, the successful candidate will have experience of working on month end, as well as experience of producing monthly management accounts. You will have excellent Excel skills, and the capability of uploading and downloading data from Excel to an accounting software system. The ideal candidate should have strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to engage with non-finance stakeholders at all levels. It would desirable - but not essential - to have experience of VAT returns.
