Job description

Prospectus is pleased to be partnering St Giles, an ambitious, well-established charity that helps people facing adversity to find jobs, homes and the right support they need. Central to their ethos is their belief that people with first-hand experience of successfully overcoming issues such as an offending background, homelessness, addictions and gang involvement, hold the key to positive change in others. They are now looking to recruit a Careers Information and Advice Caseworker to provide employability related advice to severely disadvantaged young people involved, or at risk of involvement, with the criminal justice system. The position is offered as a fixed term contract until June 2022, with the possibility of extension subject to funding.

As their Careers Information and Advice Caseworker, you will work face to face with a caseload of young people, where you will assess each client's support requirements and develop individual action plans. You will then provide a client-led support service that responds to each individual's needs and build aspirations, including motivation and engagement activities, personal development, help to secure training, apprenticeships, and employment. To achieve this, you will undertake outreach and promotion to engage clients, as well as work with colleagues to set up and run group activities e.g. motivation workshop, excursions and short courses.

To be considered, you will have substantial experience of effectively assisting young people and/or those with involvement in the criminal justice system and/or ex-offenders to progress into education, training and employment combined with an NVQ 4 or 3 (minimum) in information Advice and Guidance equivalent, or equivalent working experience. Excellent awareness of the needs and concerns of disadvantaged young people, including those experiencing homelessness, family breakdown; substance misuse, or affected by gangs is essential, as is previous experience of managing a caseload of clients and achieving set target.

If this sounds like an exciting opportunity, then please initially submit your CV in word format - suitable candidates will then be contacted and will be asked to complete a supporting statement.

St Giles positively encourage applications if you have previously worked on a client-led support project, have had personal adverse experiences such as homelessness, substance misuse, debt, involvement with gangs etc. This includes experience of the criminal justice system, having served a prison sentence, or still be serving a prison sentence in a prison.
